Songdo sushi restaurant for sharing salmon and eel sushi: Sushi Doku

In short

Sushi Doku The Songdo is a sushi restaurant on the 2nd floor of Onesta Mall in Songdo, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon. To skip the weekday lunch wait, the writer and her husband arrived right at opening and ordered the premium sushi set (myeongpum sushi jeongsik) at 25,900 won for two, trading a piece of thick salmon sushi for eel sushi across the table. With sushi, steamed egg, shrimp tempura, karaage and udon in one set, Sushi Doku The Songdo earned a 100000 percent yes on returning.

Visiting Sushi Doku The Songdo on the 2nd floor of Onesta Mall in Songdo

There's a sushi place on the 2nd floor of Onesta in Songdo that always has a line, so I was curious. Wait, this many people are enjoying sushi from weekday lunch?! So this time I visited Sushi Doku's Songdo location with my husband. Spoiler: it was seriously so good (dead serious).

Can you get a table at opening time on a weekday lunch?

Sushi Doku The Songdo was a sushi place where seats filled up right after opening even on a weekday lunch. Most of the seats were 4-person tables.

I didn't want to wait for a weekday lunch table, so we did an opening run. I was genuinely shocked at how quickly all the seats filled up. Most of them were 4-person tables.

Sushi Doku The Songdo menu and ordering tips

We ordered the premium sushi set (명품스시정식) at ₩25,900 for two. If you leave a Naver receipt review, you get one premium sushi piece per person — worth a whopping ₩6,900! Leave that receipt review and grab your premium sushi.

When you order the sushi set, you can choose whether to have wasabi added or not. I chose wasabi added, and they still gave me a side of wasabi separately. The amount of wasabi was just right, so I'd recommend choosing wasabi on.

What comes in the 25,900 won premium sushi set

The ₩25,900 premium sushi set comes with sushi, chawanmushi (savory egg custard), shrimp tempura & karaage, and udon all on one wood tray. My eyes went wide when I saw it — it arrives as a pretty wood tray loaded with a whole variety in one set. The spread was so packed I was excited before I even started eating.

This photo instantly explains why people wait from weekday lunch. Before the sushi, we warmed up with the hot chawanmushi. It had ginkgo nuts and shrimp inside, with a soft, wobbly texture. The seasoning was spot-on, so I thought right from the first bite — this is going to be good.

Meanwhile my husband insisted we eat the salad first, not the custard. Hahahahahaha. The dressing wasn't too watery and had a refreshing tang, which set us up nicely for the sushi.

What order to eat the sushi in, and how to use the soy sauce

At Sushi Doku The Songdo, you brush on as much soy sauce as you like with the brush placed beside your tray. Every piece of sushi looked so tempting (the visuals were insane) that I was debating what to eat first, when I remembered the staff telling us to start with the white fish — so that's what I did.

I tried the soy sauce wondering if it would be too salty, but it wasn't, so it was fine to dip generously.

The udon portion was massive. There were cute fish cakes in it too, which randomly brought back childhood memories.

My husband gave me the shrimp tempura too. I'm a shrimp tempura lover, and honestly... the outside was crispy and the shrimp was insanely plump. Ridiculously good. Sorry to my husband, who only got the tail.

I brushed on just the right amount of soy sauce and popped a piece in one bite. The chewy texture and the freshness of the fish itself just spread through my mouth — I thought, this is what truly good sushi tastes like.

Trading salmon sushi for uni with my husband

I don't really eat uni, so I gave mine to my husband, and in return he gave me back my beloved salmon as a gift. Want to see the size of the salmon?

It's genuinely so thick, right? Doesn't it look so moist and insane visually? I like salmon sushi where you can really taste the distinct flavor of salmon, and Sushi Doku's salmon sushi was salmon through and through. I'm someone who usually enjoys salmon sushi for the tartar sauce on top, so I can't remember the last time I enjoyed raw salmon sushi this much on its own. I always save the tastiest piece for last, and this time it was the salmon. I set aside the one piece my husband gave me and ate other things first.

Karaage from the set meal

How good is the karaage that comes with the set?

Usually the karaage (Japanese-style fried chicken) that comes in a set has pretty mediocre chicken quality, but this one was good. It was thick, moist, and had the quality of karaage you'd get as a standalone order.

My husband ate the uni just fine too. He said there wasn't a hint of fishiness, just pure nuttiness.

Eel sushi at Sushi Doku The Songdo: good even served cold

My eel sushi = far left, the one my husband swapped for me = middle. Can you tell the difference? My husband is an eel lover, basically an eel connoisseur, and he swapped his over saying it was the moister, chewier, tastier part... (husband, never change... love you forever...). But the eel was genuinely, seriously as good as the salmon. I usually like warm eel sushi, but even cold, this was next level.

An above-average sushi spread

The rest of the sushi wasn't quite up there with my favorites, but honestly everything was above average, so I've officially declared this place legit.

The last piece I enjoyed was that thick slice of salmon sushi. Ahh — a mouthful of salmon like that, can happiness really be this simple? Sushi Doku's sushi is seriously next-level good. Walking out, my husband said this was the first time since Gunggi Sushi that he's thought sushi tasted this good, haha. That's high praise from my husband.

Would we go back to this Songdo sushi restaurant?

If you're looking for a good sushi spot in Songdo, trust me and go check out Sushi Doku The Songdo. My revisit intent is 100,000 out of 100,000. It's so tasty and the portions are so generous, I'd totally recommend it as a date spot too~!
