A pork cutlet spot found in Dongtan Mokdong

I was looking for somewhere to have lunch in Dongtan Mokdong when I found Insaeng Donkatsu. It's a topping pork cutlet specialist, but since you can also order pasta and side dishes, it was great for sharing a variety of menu items with a friend.

This time we ordered the wasabi cream cheese pork cutlet, shrimp spicy cream pasta, and ppuring cheese balls. The pork cutlet had crispy breading topped with cream cheese, wasabi, and vegetables — an unusual combination — while the pasta had a creamy sauce with a spicy kick.

The exterior is decorated mainly in teal and cream tones, with red chairs as an accent, giving it the feel of a Japanese retro Western-style diner. Near the entrance there was a sign showing the menu and set compositions, which was nice to check out before going in.

If you're driving, you can park on B1–B3 of the same building and take the elevator up to the restaurant. We parked on B2.

A retro interior decorated in wood tones

Walking into this 2 Dongtan favorite, the warm wood-tone atmosphere caught my eye first. With teal accents and Japanese retro-style props, it felt a bit more charming than a typical pork cutlet restaurant.

There were 2–4 person tables as well as window-side bar seating, so you could choose depending on group size. The window seats in particular didn't feel awkward for eating alone, so it seemed like a fine spot for a Dongtan solo meal too.

Each table had a tablet ordering system, so you could look at the menu on screen while ordering, and there was a separate self-service bar. The window seats looked out onto greenery that matched the wood-tone interior well, and Japanese posters and props scattered around made it fun to look around the space.

Trying the pork cutlet, pasta, and cheese balls

The dish that caught my eye most that day was, of course, the wasabi cream cheese pork cutlet.

Close-up of the wasabi cream cheese pork cutlet on a wide plate

A large cutlet sat on a wide plate, piled high with baby greens and lotus root chips, looking a little different from a typical pork cutlet from the first glance. There was plenty of sauce underneath the cutlet, and a smooth cream cheese sauce was drizzled on top.

Cutting into the cutlet, the meat was thick and the breading was nicely crispy. With the savory, smooth flavor of the cream cheese and a slight kick of wasabi on top, it was less greasy than I expected. Most of all, the generous baby greens on top added a crisp, refreshing texture when eaten together with the cutlet. It was a dish where you could taste crispy cutlet, creamy cheese, sharp wasabi, and fresh vegetables all together.

Shrimp spicy cream pasta

The second dish was the shrimp spicy cream pasta. A wide bowl held plenty of cream sauce and pasta noodles, along with shrimp and vegetables. The sauce's color already hinted at a bit of spice, and sure enough, behind the smooth, savory cream came a spicy kick.

Rather than just the usual heaviness of cream pasta, the added spice kept me reaching for more noodles. If the cutlet was crispy and savory, the pasta was soft and spicy, so ordering both together let us enjoy two very different flavors. That day it was especially nice to be able to order it for ₩11,900 thanks to the 2nd-anniversary discount event.

Ppuring cheese balls

The side dish, ppuring cheese balls, came out as five round cheese balls. Golden fried and generously coated in cheese seasoning, they looked quite tempting. They had that classic cheese ball texture — crispy outside, chewy inside — and the salty, savory seasoning made them easy to keep picking at between bites of the mains. Adding a side dish between the cutlet and pasta made the meal feel a bit more filling and varied.

Trying all three dishes together

Laid out together, the three dishes we ordered made for a pretty hearty table.

Table with pork cutlet, pasta, and cheese balls together

The wasabi cream cheese pork cutlet was crispy and savory, the shrimp spicy cream pasta was soft and spicy, and the ppuring cheese balls had that crispy-outside, chewy-inside texture. Since the cutlet came topped with plenty of vegetables, I personally preferred eating it together with the veggies, cream cheese, and sauce rather than the cutlet alone. If two people are visiting, ordering one cutlet and one pasta and adding a side to share seems like a good approach.

A 2 Dongtan Mokdong favorite with great atmosphere, price, and taste: Insaeng Donkatsu

Insaeng Donkatsu Dongtan Mokdong Branch offers a wide range of menu choices, with pork cutlets as the base plus pasta and sides to round things out. The space is decorated in wood tones with retro props for a comfortable atmosphere, and with 2–4 person tables and window seating, it's a solid spot whether you're eating with a friend or having a Dongtan solo meal.

Of everything I tried, the wasabi cream cheese pork cutlet stood out the most. With cream cheese, wasabi, and baby greens all piled onto a thick cutlet, each bite delivered several flavors and textures at once. If you're looking for somewhere in 2 Dongtan Mokdong to enjoy pork cutlet and pasta together, this place is worth checking out for its menu variety and atmosphere.
