Gijang set-meal restaurant with black rice pot rice for three: Dongam
In short
Dongam Tteokgalbi is a Korean set-meal (hansik) restaurant on the third floor across from Lotte Outlet East Busan in Gijang, Busan. On a weekday at 1pm the writer and her mom ordered the Dongam Tteokgalbi set for three at 15,000 won each, which came with 8 basic side dishes, a black rice pot rice portioned just right for three, a 13-dish self-bar and blue crab doenjang stew. Where is Dongam Tteokgalbi in Gijang?
Dongam Tteokgalbi (동암떡갈비) is a Korean restaurant on the 3rd floor of a building at 160 Gijanghaean-ro, Gijang-eup, Gijang-gun, Busan, right across from Lotte Outlet East Busan. It's a great lunch spot in Gijang, and I went with my mom and my dog Ttaeji, since it's popular as a Korean restaurant near Haedong Yonggungsa. There are so many places to eat around Songjeong Gijang that I end up going out to eat often. I picked this one for my mom, who loves Korean food 💛
It's easy to get to and there's a lot to see nearby, so it's a good place to come for a meal. I noticed a lot of visitors to Busan there too. There's free parking on the 1st floor of the restaurant building, and the lot was spacious so parking was easy. Though I imagine it gets busier on weekends.

Dongam Tteokgalbi is on the 3rd floor! Heading up

Inside Dongam Tteokgalbi and the East Busan Outlet view
Get off the elevator on the 3rd floor and you're at Dongam Tteokgalbi. The antique-style props and interior caught my eye. Definitely a place to bring your parents to haha. There was plenty of waiting seating and space at the entrance too.
Even coming in around 1pm on a weekday, there were still a lot of customers. And people kept streaming in nonstop. Glad I found a good Gijang East Busan restaurant 👍

The restaurant is spacious with big, wide tables, so there were lots of families. There's an open view of the East Busan Outlet, you can even see Lotte World — the view is so good that even though I came for a meal, it felt like a day trip.

Dongam Tteokgalbi menu and prices
Ordering is easy with the tablet. Dongam Tteokgalbi's main menu is basically one item: the tteokgalbi (grilled beef patty) set, in a few variations.
- Dongam Tteokgalbi set ₩15,000
- Cheese Tteokgalbi set ₩18,000
- Cheongyang Cream Tteokgalbi set ₩18,000
- Hanwoo Handmade Tteokgalbi set ₩22,000

The sets differ by topping — cheese tteokgalbi, cheongyang chili cream tteokgalbi. Cheese tteokgalbi seems like something kids would love. We ordered the Dongam Tteokgalbi set for three.

The interior is old-fashioned and nice, so I kept noticing the little props.

8 basic side dishes and black rice pot rice for three
The side dishes were set out quickly right after ordering. 8 dishes neatly arranged on an octagonal wooden tray — that's how the basic sides come out.

Freshly cooked black rice pot rice for three. It looked small but was surprisingly deep inside — one pot was exactly enough for three people.
The 13-dish self-bar: like a Korean buffet
And beyond the basic side dishes, the real highlight of Dongam Tteokgalbi: the S E L F B A R.

The self-bar had all kinds of different side dishes! It was set up just like a Korean buffet. Amazing. This is a place that really loads you up on side dishes.

13 side dishes. There's squid muchim (spicy seasoned squid), and doenjang-based dip (fermented soybean paste)

Cauldron barley rice

Cool seaweed soup, black bean tofu, stir-fried kimchi, tteokbokki (spicy stir-fried rice cakes)

Stir-fried sausage and vegetables that kids would love, and fried rice

Stir-fried squid, dried seaweed, steamed egg, jjajang sauce (black bean sauce). A place that holds nothing back. For ₩15,000, unlimited variety of side dishes and extra rice on top of the tteokgalbi — incredible.

How did the beef tteokgalbi taste?
Three appetizing chunks of beef tteokgalbi came out!!

Even without the tteokgalbi there were so many side dishes to eat, but

the nicely grilled tteokgalbi is the real star. It's soft, so it's good for parents to eat, and since it's beef, they ate even more of it. Juicy, no meaty smell, and cooked well through to the middle.
A full spread of Korean set-meal side dishes — so many dishes worth reaching for that everything was delicious.

A hearty table spread — Korean food really is the best.

The crab doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) also comes out in a big stone pot.
Sticky pot rice, juicy beef tteokgalbi, and dozens of hearty side dishes — Dongam Tteokgalbi. Totally recommend it as a Korean restaurant in Gijang!!
