I was trying to decide what to eat in Seongsu-dong when a craving for warm, savory Japanese teppan food hit me, so I headed to Oshi Black Seongsu, a spot known as a local favorite 😊

Where is Oshi Black Seongsu, and what to know before you go
It's about a 5-minute walk from Exit 5 of Seoul Forest Station, so it was really accessible and easy to find!

Wandering through the alleys of Seongsu-dong, the atmospheric exterior really stands out. From the moment you step down to the basement-level entrance, soft lighting greets you, and it puts you in a good mood right away ✨ There can be a wait on weekends or in the evenings, so I'd recommend booking ahead if you're planning to visit 👍
What comes in the two-person teppanyaki set at Oshi Black Seongsu
We went back and forth on what to order, then settled on the two-person set so we could try Oshi Black's signature dishes all at once! It comes with potato salad beans, yakisoba pork belly rolls, and classic okonomiyaki — a solid lineup from starter to two mains, and I really liked the composition 😋
How do the potato salad beans taste?
The first side dish to arrive was the potato salad beans! The base was a soft, nutty mashed potato salad studded with beans that still had some bite, and the texture combo was excellent 👍

The sweet-and-savory yet smooth flavor was perfect for waking up the appetite before the mains, and it paired great with a cold drink or a beer while we waited!

I had mine with a highball. Mornings and evenings have been chilly lately, but that afternoon... it was so hot. Something cold was exactly what I needed.

Yakisoba pork belly rolls: how the combination works
Next up was Oshi Black's incredible signature dish, the yakisoba pork belly roll! Yakisoba noodles stir-fried golden and salty in a special sauce come rolled up with savory pork belly, egg, and richly melted cheese 🧀🔥

Cut into bite-sized pieces, the moment it hit my mouth, the rich juices of the pork belly, the nuttiness of the cheese, and the sweet-and-salty flavor of the yakisoba all exploded together!

Even though we weren't at the bar table, the warm hot plate meant every last bite stayed warm and soft, which was so satisfying. Pork belly, cheese, and yakisoba really is a combination that can't fail 🤤

Classic okonomiyaki, crisp outside and soft inside
The last main-course highlight was the classic okonomiyaki, the archetype of Japanese teppan cooking! The thick batter was generously packed with cabbage and various ingredients, and the sheer thickness was impressive just to look at 👏

The outside was grilled golden and crispy while the inside stayed moist and soft — a true taste of that perfect crispy-outside, soft-inside texture!

Watching the special okonomiyaki sauce, savory mayonnaise, and the generous mountain of bonito flakes dance in the heat on top made me so happy 💃✨ Eating it hot off the personal hot plate, savoring the harmony of sauce and ingredients, honestly felt like being at a real local spot in Japan!
Is Oshi Black Seongsu worth it for a Seongsu date?

At the end, they even gave us a palate-cleansing candy. Thank you :)
