Arriving at the 11:00 opening: how fast Onggi Kkotgejang fills up

My husband and I went to Onggi Kkotgejang Main Branch for weekend lunch 🦀 We timed it for the 11am opening, and about 10 minutes later the place was almost full!!! So glad we did the opening run...!!

Onggi Kkotgejang Main Branch is at 206 Donggureung-ro, Guri-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea, walkable from Exit 4 of Donggureung Station! Donggureung (royal tombs) is right across the street!!!! There's a big sign out front saying unlimited refills on soy crab + marinated crab, so it's easy to spot haha.

Hours are 11:00–21:00, last order 20:00. Refill cutoff is posted as 20:20, and meal cutoff as 20:40! Guri Love Card payment is also accepted~~~

How to reach the parking lot behind Onggi Kkotgejang

The parking lot is behind the building, and the first time you might think "is this really the way in...?" haha! It is — just go in! Like in the photo, there's a path beside the restaurant where cars can enter~~ go in through there, keep Onggi Kkotgejang on your left, and keep going in — the parking lot behind the building shows up! I also thought "is this really the way to the parking lot...?" at first, but yes it is hahahaha!!

Seating and what the 26,000-won unlimited refill includes

The inside is spacious with lots of tables~~~!

When we walked in at 11 there was plenty of room, but about 10 minutes later I was surprised how full it got haha. Good for family meals or a group of adults having lunch together.

Crab is ₩26,000 per person, and you get unlimited refills of both soy crab and marinated crab! Elementary schoolers are ₩17,000, toddlers ₩5,000. Add-on menu items include flying fish roe, ramyeon, jjajang rice, extra rice, soy shrimp, hamburg steak, and fried egg. Crab is one order per person, and there's a ₩5,000 environmental fee if you leave food uneaten, so refill only as much as you'll eat!!!

Is the soy-marinated crab salty? Sweet and mild instead

We started with 2 soy crabs and 2 marinated crabs, plus rice and side dishes. Sides like seaweed, bean sprouts, kimchi, and namul (seasoned vegetables) all came out generously, which pairs well with crab!~~~

I tried the soy crab first and... wait, this soy crab really isn't salty!!!! I love crab dishes, but soy crab can get overwhelming fast if it's too salty or the soy sauce flavor is too strong — this place had a sweet style instead. Kind of like a dalgona (Korean honeycomb candy) sweetness? Not sugary exactly, but the sweet umami hits before the saltiness of the soy sauce. Totally my taste ㅠㅠㅠ

And I barely noticed any fishy taste! My husband usually dislikes soy crab because of the fishy smell and is strictly team marinated crab, but here he ate more of the soy crab hahahaha

The crab meat was so good too. Springy yet tender, and the innards side was rich and smooth — like three textures in one bite! I worried the crab quality might dip a bit at an unlimited-refill place, but I didn't get that feeling at all.

The marinated crab has a totally different charm from the soy crab. The sauce isn't just sweet — it's slightly spicy with a big umami punch. We liked the soy crab more so we mostly refilled that, but I noticed the table behind us refilled way more marinated crab hahaha guess it's a matter of taste!

But the marinated crab was also really packed with meat. Open the shell and the flesh is plump inside — press it and........🤤

And eating crab without crab-shell rice would be such a shame.... can't skip this haha. Put rice in the shell, mix in a bit of the innards and soy sauce, top with flying fish roe, and mix it all up — wow.......ㅜㅜㅜㅜ this is seriously a rice thief.

The flying fish roe comes free the first time, and extra orders cost more! The pop-pop texture went so well with the rich innards. Wrap it all in seaweed and that's it.!!!!!!!!!!!! Seaweed + rice + crab meat + innards — no need to say more haha

And I added a fried egg too. Fried egg is ₩1,000. You can choose sunny-side up or fully cooked haha. I'm team sunny-side up~~~~~ hehe

Soy crab plus fried egg... how could you resist this combo hahahaha. Pop the yolk and wrap it up with crab meat, rice, and seaweed — the salty-sweet soy crab gets even more savory.!

Soy crab refills brought before we had to ask

And here's the important part. Since it's unlimited refills, we refilled — but the staff walked around, noticed our empty dishes, and offered before we even asked haha. Second refill of soy crab.

At unlimited-refill places, honestly, sometimes it feels awkward to say "one more please..."... just a little.... but there's none of that here haha. Staff walk around, spot an empty dish, and immediately say "want more?" and bring it right over haha. We started with 2 soy crabs and 2 marinated crabs, then refilled with just soy crab! We really ate a lot... third refill of soy crab. For the third round, 2 of the 3 crabs turned out to be female, and when we cracked them open!!!!!!!!!!!! oh!!!!!!!!!!! lucky!!!!!!!!!!

Lucky roe~~~hahahaha. There doesn't seem to be a set rule for who gets female or male crab — it just depends on what comes in that day. See the roe??????????????????? Found this one packed with orange roe and got way too excited taking photos hahahahahaha

The meat was great, and the roe and innards were so rich and smooth. The first bowl of rice is included, extras cost more! I ate a moderate amount, but my husband ended up having two bowls hahahahahahaha;;;;; The crab being sweet and not salty just kept the rice coming...hahahahaha

At the self-serve corner you can grab wet wipes, plastic gloves, and seaweed. And there's also Han River ramyeon available haha. My original plan was to finish with the ramyeon too.... but with such generous refills, I was too full to eat it ^^^^^....

Was this Guri crab meal worth the price? The verdict

And personally, I felt the price was really fair too.! We often buy soy crab or marinated crab from banchan shops at Guri Traditional Market, where it's usually ₩25,000–30,000 per kg.??? But at Onggi Kkotgejang, it's ₩26,000 per person for unlimited soy crab + marinated crab, plus rice, plus side dishes, plus staff constantly checking in, and above all — it's delicious.

Plus, eating crab at home means cleaning up shells and soy-sauce-stained dishes afterward, which is work too hahahaha!!!!! Eating with my husband, we said "let's just come here from now on" hahahaha

With unlimited-refill places, often the price is fine but the taste is lacking, or the taste is good but the crab quality is lacking, or refilling feels awkward — always something. Onggi Kkotgejang didn't fall short on unlimited refills, crab quality, price, taste, or friendliness.! Especially since the soy crab is sweet and not salty, it hit our tastes perfectly hahaha even my husband, originally team marinated crab, kept eating the soy crab and saying it was delicious — that says it all!!!!!
