Korean set meals with free rice refills in Suseong, Daegu: Cafe Dongi

I wanted to have Korean food with my mom, and I heard Cafe Dongi — which I enjoyed so much in Siji last time — also has a branch in Suseong-gu, so I went to check it out!

By the way, Cafe Dongi seems to have a ton of branches? It's famous for being super good value for money, so I walked into the Suseong 1-ga branch with high expectations haha.

Walking in, the whole place feels clean and comfortable. It's not too formal for a Korean restaurant, but it's not overly casual either, so it felt just right for a family meal or lunch with friends. It seemed like a good place to eat alone simply, or to visit with your parents :)

What's on the menu at Cafe Dongi, and what's good for sharing?

The menu is so varied that I thought it would be great for people of all ages to come together! I ordered bulgogi, jjukkumi, the yeolmu set, and several side dishes.

Unlimited fried eggs, rice and gangjeong at Cafe Dongi

One reason Cafe Dongi is such good value — you can fry as many eggs as you want. And that's not all, rice and gangjeong (Korean rice snack) are also unlimited, so you can take as much as you like.

This time at Cafe Dongi Suseong 1-ga Branch, we ordered the summer yeolmu set, bulgogi set, and jjukkumi set. As soon as the food arrived, the first thing I felt was how hearty and neat the whole spread was! With so many side dishes coming together, it felt more like a proper meal than just eating a single dish :-)

Summer yeolmu set: cold young radish noodles

Maybe because it's summer, the menu that caught my eye the most was the summer yeolmu set. On hot days you often lose your appetite, but with yeolmu (young radish greens) in it, it felt refreshingly cool and light, easy to eat without any heaviness. It's the kind of dish I'd think of on a day I wanted something clean and Korean in summer.

Bulgogi is a dish anyone can enjoy without hesitation, so it's a good one to order when there are several of you. Sweet and savory bulgogi with rice made for a familiar yet satisfying meal! Paired little by little with the side dishes, it felt just like eating home-cooked food.

Jjukkumi set: spicy baby octopus

Personally, having one slightly spicy dish like jjukkumi (spicy octopus) made the whole combination even better. The chewy texture of the jjukkumi with spicy sauce went well with rice, and alternating with the bulgogi let me enjoy both sweet and spicy flavors — very satisfying.

Mini jeon, tangsuyuk and omija tea to finish

We also tried the mini jeon (savory pancake bites) ordered as a side. Just as the name suggests, they were bite-sized and easy to eat, making a nice light addition between the main dishes. Having one jeon dish rounded out the whole Korean spread even more!

And surprisingly, I kept reaching for the tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork)! Pairing tangsuyuk with Korean dishes might feel a bit unusual, but with several of us sharing, it actually worked out well.

Personally, Cafe Dongi Suseong 1-ga Branch felt less like a flashy destination restaurant and more like a place to visit when you want a comfortable, clean meal. If you're looking for a Korean or home-style restaurant near Suseong-dong or Daebong Bridge, it's worth a visit :) I'd love to stop by again next time I'm craving a satisfying meal nearby!
