A mungtigi spot found for round two near Dongdaegu Station

I meet friends near Dongdaegu Station a lot, but after round one at a barbecue place, it's always tricky finding somewhere good for round two or three. So I searched hard and found Haepumsosaeng Gogi, a mungtigi (hand-cut raw beef) restaurant near Dongdaegu Station! Beyond raw beef, they have yukhoe (raw beef tartare), odeuregi, yukhoe bibimbap, and even hanwoo mul-hoe (chilled raw beef soup) — so it works both for a light drink and a full meal.

Location and parking

Haepumsosaeng Gogi sits at the end of the Dongdaegu Station food alley! It's easy to reach from both Dong-gu and Suseong-gu. There's no dedicated lot, but the road out front is wide enough to park.

What's on the menu

Their signature raw beef is sourced fresh every single morning, hand-picked for quality! Besides raw beef, they also serve yukhoe, odeuregi, and tataki, so there's plenty to pick based on your taste ʕ*ノᴥノʔ For side dishes, there's hanwoo mul-hoe, sushi, and yukhoe bibimbap to fill you up, plus gopchang jeongol (intestine hot pot) and arongsatae jeongol (beef shank hot pot), which make this a good place to keep drinking through round two or three.

Menu listing brisket sashimi and beef sashimi

Beef brisket sashimi and beef sashimi are also on the menu, but they were out the day I visited. At a place this fresh, you really want the brisket sashimi, so that was a bummer ᵒ̴̶̷̥́ㅂᵒ̴̶̷̣̥̀ If you really want to try it, call ahead to check before you go!

Drink menu with soju, highballs, and traditional liquors

The drink menu ranges from soju, beer, and makgeolli to highballs, traditional liquors, and sake, so there's plenty to choose from depending on your mood. Leaving a receipt review gets you a free bottle of soju too.

Interior of the restaurant with about eight tables

Partitioned seats and group tables

There are about 8 tables inside! The space is kept clean and tidy, which made me feel reassured about eating raw beef here.

Tables separated by partitions

Each table is separated by a partition, so you can't hear the table next to you and won't even make eye contact — it's really private!

Long connected table for group dinners

There's also this long connected table setup, which looks great for group gatherings or company dinners near Dongdaegu Station! There was actually a group meeting going on that day too.

Space that can be sectioned off with blinds for small group gatherings

This area can also be sectioned off with blinds, so smaller groups can meet without bumping into the team next door — nice touch! ( > ᴗ • )

A full spread of side dishes, from cheonyeop to vegetable porridge

As soon as we ordered, they laid out a really generous spread of side dishes first! (ゝ。∂) Fresh cheonyeop (beef tripe), braised beef, japchae, dried pollack and seaweed soup, jeon (Korean pancakes), sausage, jellyfish salad, and even tteokbokki filled the table completely. And it's not just about quantity — every dish was clearly made with skill, so everything tasted great.

Fresh cheonyeop served with sesame oil

The cheonyeop especially was so fresh that it made me trust the raw beef too! Dipped in sesame oil, it's the ultimate drinking snack! When I asked for more, they brought out a generous extra helping.

The large raw beef platter: stickiness and deep meaty flavor

The large raw beef platter I ordered finally arrived! 𐃆 ˒˒( ◍′༥‵*◍) The portion was genuinely huge and satisfying. Even for a bowl held by a man's hand, it looked massive and generously filled. Since the raw beef is brought in fresh every morning, you could tell just from the color how fresh it was.

They say fresh raw beef has good stickiness. Even when you flip the bowl, the beef stays stuck to it! You can really feel just how fresh it is ヾ(°∇°*)

Raw beef is also all about the dipping sauce, right? Here, the garlic in the sauce isn't minced but cut into large pieces, so you get both the aroma and the texture of the garlic in every bite — I think that's a real strength.

I dipped the first piece generously in the sauce. The perfect balance of fat and lean meat came together, and the savory aroma that builds as you chew was so good. Because the beef is so fresh, the deep meaty flavor really comes through — delicious!

A piece of raw beef dipped in sauce

They also serve vinegared rice on the side, and topping it with a piece of raw beef and sauce instantly makes a premium hanwoo sushi (•'ٮ'•)৴ Need I say more about the taste? The sweet-and-tangy vinegared rice with the deep meaty flavor pairs so well together.

Yukhoe bibimbap, with a chamnamul kick

As a side, we ordered the yukhoe bibimbap! ⸜(。˃ ᵕ ˂ )⸝ It's loaded with a variety of vegetables, so it looks gorgeous right off the bat. The seasoning sauce comes on the side, and it seemed to be a house-made yakgochujang (medicinal gochujang) — sweet yet nutty, and really tasty.

The real kick of this dish is the chamnamul (aromatic aster greens)! The seasoned chamnamul that came as a basic side dish was already fragrant and good, but mixed together with the yukhoe and yakgochujang, the combination was even better. There's plenty of yukhoe in it too, so it's a flavor that's hard to dislike (*´∇`)ノ

In summary

From the fresh raw beef to the yukhoe bibimbap, I really got to enjoy hanwoo (Korean beef) the right way! In particular, since they select good meat fresh every morning, the stickiness and deep meaty flavor of the raw beef were fantastic. With partitions at every table for privacy and group tables ready for bigger parties, this is a great pick if you're looking for a group gathering or company dinner spot near Dongdaegu Station!
