Gangneung restaurant that seats medium dogs indoors: spicy sundubu

On a trip with my parents and my medium-sized dog, I found a Gangneung makguksu spot everyone had to try — Gossi's Donghae Makguksu & Sundubu Kalguksu Main Branch. It's right by Gangmun Beach so parking was easy, and the fact that it's a dog-friendly indoor restaurant made it even better :) Here's my review.

How to get to Gossi's main branch in Gangneung, and its hours

Search "Gossi's Donghae Makguksu" on your map app and the main branch will pop up. There's a public parking lot right in front, so you can park there and walk over. Hours differ on weekdays and weekends — weekdays 10:00-20:30, weekends 8:00-20:30. Break time is 15:30-17:00, so plan around that haha.

The parking lot gives you 1 hour free by default, and the restaurant covers an extra 30 minutes (just tell them your license plate when you pay). We could eat without worrying about parking fees.

Seating floor by floor: medium dogs on 1, small dogs on 3

Gossi's main branch spans floors 1 through 3. The 1st floor is for guests with medium and large dogs, while the 3rd floor is for those with small dogs.

Since we were with my medium-sized dog Hyosoon, we were seated on the 1st floor.

The 2nd floor is for guests without dogs, and you get to eat while looking out at Gangmun Beach! The view was definitely prettier up there, but since we were going to walk along the beach after eating anyway, it didn't matter much haha.

What we ordered at the kiosk and what it cost

There's a kiosk at every table, so ordering is easy. Here's what we got:

• Spicy sundubu (soft tofu stew) ₩11,000 x 2
• Bibim makguksu (mixed buckwheat noodles) ₩12,000
• Avocado buckwheat gimbap ₩8,500

We'd already had dessert at a café and came for dinner, so I figured one main dish each would be plenty — but my parents got really curious about the buckwheat gimbap haha. So we went a little overboard (?), but it was so good we finished it all;

How was the bibim makguksu at Gossi's?

After a short wait, the dishes started coming out one by one. Since we came here specifically for the makguksu, I was excited to see how good it would be!! There were several types — mul (cold broth), bibim (mixed), jat sundubu (pine nut tofu) — and I went with bibim, hehe.

I added just the right amount of broth and mixed it up, and wow.... the springy noodles looked perfect even before I took a bite — I was gasping while filming the video.

When I actually tasted it, all I could do was give it a thumbs up. The chewy noodles, the delicious broth, the sauce that blended in perfectly, and the pollack sashimi adding texture and flavor — it was the perfect combination :) Both my mom and dad kept saying it was delicious, and I thought I'd have to come back to try the other makguksu types too. (Save this Gangneung makguksu spot!!!)

Is the spicy sundubu too spicy to handle?

A trip to Gangneung feels incomplete without sundubu. We hadn't had any tofu dishes at other restaurants, so I chose a warm soup dish too! Looking at the color of the spicy sundubu, you might worry "uh oh, is this going to be too spicy"...

But it's more savory and deep than spicy, with a rich broth packed with soft yet firm tofu — exactly my kind of sundubu, ㅠㅠ!! Honestly, ordering sundubu on a Gangneung trip doesn't always pay off, but Gossi's main branch nailed it. Every single dish was delicious.

Avocado buckwheat gimbap and the side dishes

Add the avocado buckwheat gimbap (seaweed rice roll) to the mix and it's perfect. The crunchy cucumber inside paired well, and the soft avocado was amazing! Honestly, I thought adding gimbap would be way too much food since I was already worried about being full..haha, but it was so good we ate it all, which left me a bit sheepish. I highly recommend everyone try the buckwheat gimbap here.

The basic side dishes were various kinds of kimchi, and as expected, they were all delicious too haha. Everything about this place, from start to finish, made it a local favorite in Gangneung.

What eating at Gossi's with a medium dog is really like

When traveling with a medium-sized dog, choosing restaurants and cafés isn't always easy. But this dog-friendly indoor restaurant only required a harness, so we could relax and enjoy it — and with the makguksu, sundubu, and buckwheat gimbap all being so good, I was genuinely happy ㅠㅠ. Clean, great atmosphere, and the staff were incredibly kind — Gossi's main branch is one I'll remember. You can also visit after booking through Naver Reservation.
