Mapo seafood restaurant with baby seat, family set for 4

In short

Jaecheoldameun Mapo Bada is a seafood restaurant near Daeheung Station in Mapo, Seoul, where a family of four ordered the signature set (₩151,000) covering sashimi through abalone porridge. A baby seat made it easy to sit together with a child, and the abalone porridge, made with just abalone and rice, plus tofu kimchi and cold pork made it enjoyable even for those who don't love raw fish. A solid pick for family gatherings or company dinners.

Today I visited Jaecheoldameun Mapo Bada, a seafood restaurant that just opened near Daeheung Station!! I really, really want to recommend it as a Mapo seafood restaurant for family gatherings! Just a heads up, it's closed every Tuesday.

The fresh fish you see the moment you walk in,, my husband and my dad both love sashimi so they were so excited about this place — and it turned out to be a restaurant they raved and raved about!!

Hours and visiting with kids

On weekdays they're open from 5 PM to 11 PM, and on Saturdays and Sundays from 12 PM to 11 PM! Closed every Tuesday!

They had a baby seat for our little one too, so we ate so comfortably hahaha.

We visited as a family of four so we ordered the Mapo Bada Signature Set, which came with salt-grilled shrimp, raw shrimp, gizzard shad sashimi, a 4-kind sashimi platter, grilled gizzard shad, a seafood platter, cold pork, tofu kimchi, abalone porridge (jeonbokjuk), steamed egg, and seaweed soup — so many different dishes that I was genuinely shocked at how generous it was.. This whole set comes out already arranged on its own tray with a cover on top, and honestly both the portion and the taste were the best..

With this set ready, my mom and I, who don't usually go for raw fish, still had plenty of dishes we loved!! Especially the tofu kimchi, cold pork, seaweed soup, abalone porridge, grilled gizzard shad, and even the fried items were all so delicious!!

Plate of nicely grilled gizzard shad

Grilled gizzard shad and steamed egg

The first thing my dad and husband raved about was the grilled gizzard shad — even though gizzard shad season hasn't fully arrived yet, they kept saying how good it was, haha. It was grilled just right and the flesh was so plump and tasty!

The steamed egg and seaweed soup were great for our baby too — the seasoning wasn't too salty or too bland,, we kept wondering how it could taste this good..

Seafood platter with abalone and scallop sashimi

Seafood platter, cold pork, and fried items

The fresh seafood platter had abalone sashimi, scallop sashimi, sea squirt, and sea cucumber! Everything was so fresh that the drinks just kept flowing haha.

Cold pork served with vegetables

Cold pork isn't something you find many places selling these days, but here it had absolutely no gamey smell and was really delicious.. Wrapped in the fresh vegetables it was seriously so good haha.

The fried items came out too — potato, shrimp, and zucchini — all crispy and so tasty!! Our baby ate them well too, haha.

Abalone porridge with just abalone and rice

And personally my favorite was the abalone porridge (jeonbokjuk).. it was genuinely so delicious, you have to try it here.. Our baby ate it up well and I basically inhaled it myself! Personally I don't like abalone porridge that has vegetables mixed in, but this one only has abalone and rice, so you get the pure aroma and flavor of the abalone — I loved that so much~~!

Tofu kimchi and live octopus

This tofu kimchi was so good too! Wrapped together with the tofu and stir-fried kimchi, it's spicy but the tofu's plain, mild flavor really stands out,, haha.

And then the live octopus (sannakji) my dad devoured!! It was so fresh it was still wriggling, and genuinely delicious!! The sesame oil was so fragrant and the octopus itself was clean and mild — really tasty!

Even the basic side dishes were all clean and paired well with the sashimi!

The main event: grilled shrimp, heads done butter-style

And now the main event, the grilled shrimp!!! There was plenty of shrimp, enough for all four of us!! While we were busy eating sashimi, abalone porridge, and live octopus, the shrimp were quietly cooking away haha!

My husband worked hard peeling the hot shrimp, blowing on them to cool them down, hahaha.

Salt-grilled shrimp cooking on the grill

The moment the shrimp were cooked just right, my husband peeled one right away and fed it to me — how can something be this delicious..

Shrimp grilled to perfect doneness

Since you have to eat the heads butter-grilled, my husband cut them all in half and asked to have the heads butter-grilled hahaha.

All the shrimp cooked through,,, my husband peeled every single one while they were still warm. On a normal day I'd be the one peeling, but with my parents there, my husband kept going "ouch, hot" while diligently peeling them all haha.

Dipped in chojang (vinegar-chili sauce), it was honey-sweet

The leftover heads we had butter-grilled, and it was seriously so good haha. I didn't know how to eat butter-grilled shrimp heads before, but my husband taught me hahaha.

A generous sashimi platter

And then out came the generous sashimi platter.. Not counting the raw shrimp and gizzard shad sashimi, there were 4 more kinds of sashimi, and everyone kept raving about how fresh and delicious it all was hahaha.

Especially the gizzard shad sashimi and raw shrimp — probably because they're in season — my husband and dad completely devoured them haha.

Family toasting together at the meal

We all toasted together, cheers..!! Everyone said it was the number one restaurant they've eaten at recently.. Highly recommend this place for family gatherings or company dinners going forward.
