Charcoal-grilled short rib date spot in Uijeongbu: Supsok Oki Jip

It had been a while since I wanted to eat good meat and have dinner somewhere with nice atmosphere with my boyfriend, so I went looking for good restaurants near Uijeongbu Station and ended up back at Supsok Oki Jip. I'd been once before and remembered liking both the vibe and the food, so this time I went again.

This time I was especially in the mood for real meat, so I went looking for a good beef restaurant in Uijeongbu — and it didn't disappoint again! The hwangje neukgansal (premium short rib) was seriously delicious! Great value for what you pay, plus the unique forest-cabin atmosphere made it a solid date spot too.

A forest-cabin exterior close to Uijeongbu Station

Supsok Oki Jip is close to Uijeongbu Station, so it's easy to get to by public transit. It's tucked into an alley, but the exterior stands out so it wasn't hard to find. True to its name, there are trees and green touches right from the entrance, so it really felt like stepping into a little cabin in the forest.

These days a lot of people look for places that are good for photos, not just good food, and this place has that aesthetic vibe right from the entrance, so it was great for taking pictures. It'd suit anyone hunting for an Instagram-worthy restaurant or a good-atmosphere spot near Uijeongbu Station.

Wood-tone interior with a brazier at every table

Walking in, the wood-tone atmosphere continued from the exterior. Overall it felt warm and cozy, a bit different from your average Korean BBQ place.

With soft lighting on top of that, it was nice for chatting over a drink, and it wasn't too loud or chaotic, so it was comfortable eating with my boyfriend. There were tables ranging from seats for two up to spots for larger groups, so it seemed good not just for dates but also for gatherings with friends or company dinners. Each table had its own brazier, so there was the fun of grilling the meat yourself. If you've been looking for a good-atmosphere Korean BBQ place in Uijeongbu, this could really be it.

Ordering hwangje neukgansal x3 plus the ₩10,000 set

That day we ordered hwangje neukgansal (premium short rib) x3 servings and the ₩10,000 set!

The ₩10,000 set comes with gopchang jeongol (offal hot pot) and homemade curry together — even looking at the menu I thought it seemed good value, but seeing it in person it was even more generous than expected. Meat alone can feel a little lacking, but with a soup dish and curry to go with it, it was plenty for two people. With dining-out prices going up so much these days, price matters a lot when picking a BBQ place, and this combo feels like a solid choice for anyone looking for a good-value beef restaurant.

A pre-meal soup to cleanse the palate first!! Kimchi, mushrooms(?), gungchae, and Oki Jip's special sauce — that's the basic spread they bring out.

I highly recommend the hwangje neukgansal... you have to order the ₩10,000 set, no question.

How the charcoal-grilled hwangje neukgansal tasted

First the charcoal arrived and we started grilling the hwangje neukgansal piece by piece. As the meat started cooking, a savory smell rose up that really got my appetite going.

While eating the meat we also tried the gopchang jeongol that came with it. The broth was spicy and warming, good for spooning up between bites of meat, and it also worked well as a drinking snack. Meat alone can get a bit greasy after a while, but a spoonful of the soup made me want to keep eating meat again.

The homemade curry was tastier than expected too. It had that deep, distinctive curry flavor, and with rice on the side it was filling.

Taking a bite of the nicely browned meat, it was juicy with a good savory beefy flavor. It chewed soft with no toughness at all, so I kept reaching for more, and dipping it lightly in the sauce added even more umami. Meat really does taste best grilled over charcoal.

When looking for a good beef rib restaurant, meat quality matters, but the side dishes and atmosphere you can enjoy alongside it matter too — and thinking about it that way, Supsok Oki Jip held up well.

Good for a date, a get-together, or a company dinner?

One of Supsok Oki Jip's biggest strengths is being able to enjoy the food and the atmosphere together. It's close to Uijeongbu Station so it's easy to get to, and the space itself is cozy, so it worked well for a dinner date. It'd also be good for meeting friends over meat and drinks,

and with the variety of table sizes, it looked good for group gatherings or an evening company dinner in Uijeongbu too. If you're after something a bit different from your typical Korean BBQ place, that forest-cabin atmosphere will definitely stick in your memory.

This time again I got to properly enjoy good meat and drinks at Supsok Oki Jip. The hwangje neukgansal had great juiciness and flavor, and with the ₩10,000 set I got to have gopchang jeongol and homemade curry as well, so overall the value felt satisfying. Most of all, I liked being able to enjoy the atmosphere while eating Uijeongbu beef.

If you're looking for a date spot near Uijeongbu Station, or a place to have a relaxed drink with friends, this is a solid option! Especially if you're hunting for a good beef restaurant or beef rib restaurant and want something with more personality than a typical BBQ joint, I'd recommend it. The photos come out pretty too, so anyone chasing an Instagram-worthy restaurant would probably like it as well.
