Frozen financiers at Byway Bakers, a bakery in Uijeongbu
In short
Byway Bakers Cheongsa Main Branch is a baked goods and bakery spot in Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi, a 5-minute walk from Bukbucheongsa Station. A 5-year regular bought the yellow cheese, pistachio, and vanilla financiers along with the fig wakkbu salt bread, finding the financiers dense and fudgy — perfect frozen — while the salt bread was too heavy to finish alone. If you're on a bakery tour of Uijeongbu, Byway Bakers Cheongsa is a must-stop.

My favorite bakery in Uijeongbu. (Well, more precisely — baked goods spot!?) I brought you a Byway Bakers review! And no, this isn't weight I gained by accident — this is weight gained from eating only delicious bread.

Why I've been a regular since 2022
I've been a regular since 2022, if you can believe it. Now it's a points system, but back when it was a coupon system I went so often I got tons of freebies... One time I ordered delivery and they even threw in a whole can of condensed milk. Now with the points system it's less of a hassle! Back then I lost my coupons every single time.

I've spread the word to everyone around me too, and whenever I go visit a friend far away, I always pack a few to make them try. Of course it's a must-stop whenever people visit Uijeongbu! Back when I never left the house, someone once used Byway Bakers as bait to lure me out...

I've written about this on bread cafe apps before too, haha 🫢 When I first started eating at Byway Bakers there was just the one location — Cheongsa Main Branch — but now there are so many franchise branches. Two in Uijeongbu alone, plus Yeongdeungpo, Byeollae, and more. That just shows how good it is and how much everyone loves it..!! If you're doing a bakery tour of Uijeongbu, please do stop by Byway Bakers 🫢 Call it the pride of an Uijeongbu bread lover. Today's post is about the Cheongsa Main Branch.

It's about a 5-minute walk from Bukbucheongsa Station on the Uijeongbu Light Rail! It used to close one day a week, but now it's open every single day, which is great!

What's on the menu
The menu is so varied I can't list it all, but basically there's salt bread, baguette, financiers, and every trending dessert too. A bit past its peak now, but they still have du-jjon-ku (double croissant-cookie hybrid), and butter rice cake, also a bit past trend, plus the currently trending chocolate baguette! And of course, the wakkbu salt bread ✨✨ (I heard Byway Bakers is where wakkbu salt bread originated!)

How to avoid it being sold out
Honestly, this felt like a spot only I knew about, so I've been a little sad (?) ever since the wakkbu salt bread blew up. You know that feeling. The menu is so varied but things also sell out incredibly fast!! Personally, I recommend checking Baemin (Baedal Minjok delivery app) before you visit — both the Cheongsa and Uijeongbu branches are on Baemin, so you can check the menu in advance.

They also sell financier gift packages like this, great for giving as presents.

What I bought this time

- ✔️ Wakkbu salt bread (fig basque) / ₩10,600
- ✔️ Yellow cheese financier / ₩3,900
- ✔️ Pistachio financier / ₩3,900
- ✔️ Vanilla financier / ₩3,900
This was my first time buying the wakkbu salt bread, but I've probably had 15 each of the other financiers? Honestly, I think I personally built one of the pillars holding up the Uijeongbu branch.

The fig wakkbu salt bread is for sharing between two or three
Wow, I was genuinely shocked at how heavy it was. Those mukbang YouTubers who finish one of these on their own are amazing. It's incredibly delicious but the portion is massive, so there's no way you can finish it alone — I recommend two or three people.

The cream... the cream is just so good. Seriously, the cream is amazing. That's because Byway Bakers' cakes are also incredible, so my family's birthday cake has always been from Byway Bakers. (Well, technically only for the past 5 years.)

My old birthday cake from back in the day... mango is always the best...

A 5-year regular's recommendation: frozen financiers
This was also genuinely delicious. You can't really go wrong with any bread from Byway Bakers, but as a 5-year regular, if I had to recommend the one that sets them apart from other bakeries, it's the frozen financiers. For a financier to taste good frozen, the inside basically needs to be chewy and fudgy and pretty sweet to begin with — because when it's cold, the sweetness dulls a bit... And Byway Bakers' financiers are exactly like that. Dense and fudgy inside... I really recommend freezing them before eating 😙
