In short

Jeju Monteurak Bundang Sunae Branch is a Korean BBQ restaurant in Seongnam, Gyeonggi, serving Jeju black pork five-layer pork belly and seafood doenjang-jjigae. The staff grilled the pork from start to finish, while the stew with shrimp, scallops, and abalone was especially memorable. A great stop when you want pork and a rich soybean-paste stew together.

For a late weekend lunch, I wanted to enjoy some meat at a more relaxed pace, so I visited Jeju Monteurak Bundang Sunae Branch (제주몬트락 분당수내점). Usually, at Korean BBQ restaurants, I have to grill the meat myself, so even while enjoying it, I am constantly watching the grill. This time, though, I was able to have a truly comfortable meal.

A Sunae Korean BBQ restaurant with easy parking

Jeju Monteurak, known as a popular Korean BBQ spot in Bundang, was convenient from the moment I parked.

Parking in the building was easy, making it a good place to visit by car. Since it was late at lunchtime on the weekend, the restaurant was also quiet, and I could eat at a relaxed pace.

Jeju black pork grilled by the staff

I ordered Jeju black pork o-gyeopsal, or five-layer pork belly, and seafood traditional doenjang-jjigae (soybean-paste stew). I liked how neat the table setting looked from the start.

At Korean BBQ restaurants, there can sometimes be so many side dishes that I barely touch them. Here, though, the essentials arrived in a tidy arrangement, which I liked. Each side dish was cleanly prepared and paired well with the meat, so it was even better.

Best of all, the staff grilled the meat from beginning to end! Thanks to that, I could eat comfortably without worrying about whether the meat was burning or needed turning. They cooked the o-gyeopsal especially carefully, so I could properly enjoy its flavor.

Chewy, nutty Jeju pork belly with no off smell

When I eat samgyeopsal or o-gyeopsal in Sunae, the things I care about most are any off smell and the texture. For the first bite, I tried it simply with just a little salt.

There was absolutely no off smell, and the meat was wonderfully chewy. It was tender while still having a satisfying bite, and the fatty layer characteristic of o-gyeopsal was savory rather than greasy.

In particular, it was so good wrapped in the baek-kimchi (mild white kimchi) they grilled alongside it, with a little wasabi on top. The meat's savory richness, the clean taste of the baek-kimchi, and the sharpness of the wasabi worked beautifully together.

It was delicious with just salt, and equally delicious with baek-kimchi and wasabi, so it was fun trying different combinations.

Why it would work for a Sunae Station group dinner

For these reasons, I thought it would also be a good option for anyone looking for a group dinner place near Sunae Station. Since the staff grill the meat themselves, it is easy to talk with your group while eating, and no one has to stay by the grill the entire time.

The easy parking and tidy restaurant also made it seem suitable for a family meal or gathering. If you are looking for a Korean BBQ restaurant in Bundang and want Jeju black pork, it is worth stopping by.

The seafood doenjang-jjigae I remembered even more than the meat

But there was one more dish that was truly impressive that day: the seafood traditional doenjang-jjigae.

At first, I ordered it to have with rice alongside the meat, but once I tried it, the quality was far better than I expected. It contained shrimp, scallops, and even abalone, so it definitely felt different from the usual doenjang-jjigae at a Korean BBQ restaurant.

The seafood gave the broth a deep umami flavor, which blended wonderfully with the earthy richness of the doenjang. At some point, it almost felt as though the meat had been the appetizer and I was eating the rice with the stew. After enjoying the meat, finishing with warm rice and rich seafood doenjang-jjigae wrapped up the meal so nicely.

Jeju Monteurak for a comfortable meal

Jeju Monteurak Bundang Sunae Branch had good food, of course, but what I especially liked was how comfortable it was to eat there. Parking was easy, the table setting was tidy, and the staff grilled the meat all the way through, so I could focus on the meal itself.

Above all, the Jeju black pork o-gyeopsal was chewy and savory without any off smell, while the seafood traditional doenjang-jjigae had an especially impressive rich broth filled with shrimp, scallops, and abalone. If you are looking for Korean BBQ in Sunae, samgyeopsal in Sunae, Jeju o-gyeopsal, or samgyeopsal in Bundang, I recommend trying not only the meat but also the doenjang-jjigae at the end. It was a Sunae Station restaurant that I think I will remember again after such a delicious and comfortable late weekend lunch.
