Hwaseong BBQ restaurant for samgyeopsal and giant egg roll with kids

In short

Yangpuni Kimchi Jjigae & Samgyeopsal is a barbecue restaurant in Dongtan, Hwaseong, Gyeonggi. A twin mom stopped by after a trip to Art the Park, switched from kimchi jjigae to samgyeopsal (grilled pork belly) the moment she smelled it grilling, and ordered a giant egg roll for the kids that they wrapped up happily in lettuce wraps. Both the pork belly and the egg roll were a hit with the children, making for a satisfying family dinner.

I'm a mom raising twins~🙋‍♀️ Last weekend after a trip to Art the Park in Dongtan, I was racking my brain over what to eat for dinner, and I stumbled on this Dongtan Bansong-dong restaurant nearby and had a totally satisfying dinner there! Here's my review 😊

Every table has a table-order tablet installed, so ordering was super convenient! haha

Why we went in for kimchi jjigae and switched to samgyeopsal

Honestly, when we walked in I was planning to order kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew). But the second the door opened, the smell of pork belly grilling completely won me over and I switched orders on the spot 😆 As you'd expect from a proper Dongtan Bansong-dong meat restaurant, the smell of the meat alone was next level.

They even had green onion kimchi, which I love~~! The kimchi and bean sprouts looked perfect for grilling, right?

You grill it yourself here, and the pork belly smells genuinely amazing haha. Even writing this at night, it's making me hungry again~~^^

Piling the kimchi and bean sprouts on top while grilling made me feel like I was back at some old-school neighborhood samgyeopsal place. It really felt like stepping into a memory~~

The kids said the pork belly was so good and really dug in haha. They wrapped it up in lettuce wraps and ate very neatly!

Already a proven local favorite

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 The whole time we were eating, the door kept opening with more customers coming in. That's when I thought — this really is a genuine Dongtan Bansong-dong meat restaurant. Seems like word has already spread among the locals.

The giant egg roll!! We ordered this too. I'd promised the kids we'd get an egg roll here, so I ordered without hesitation. After one bite they said it was fluffy and delicious and ate it right up~~

Giant egg roll cooked soft all the way through

Even the inside was cooked soft and gentle. It'd make a great side dish with rice too haha

Turns out it's also a kimchi jjigae destination

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 The whole time we were eating, the door kept opening with new customers, and interestingly there were a lot of family groups. But what really surprised me was that the table next to us, and the one after that, all ordered kimchi jjigae instead of samgyeopsal.? haha

Dining room atmosphere with many family customers

I saw grandparents, parents, and kids all sit down together around a single pot of kimchi jjigae more than once — I guess, true to the restaurant's name, kimchi jjigae really is the signature dish. haha Next time I visit, I definitely need to order the kimchi jjigae myself!! At this point I'm convinced it's both a solid Dongtan Bansong-dong meat restaurant and a genuine kimchi jjigae spot.
