Ordering two servings of raw pork belly, chadol jip doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew), and a bowl of rice came to ₩47,000, with staff grilling the meat, then bean sprouts, bracken, and kimchi in sequence. The spacious interior of Gogigaondang Dongtan Branch

The interior was pretty spacious, so it seemed like a good spot for a group dinner too! At first glance the place looked really clean — even the spoons and tongs were spotless, which gave me a lot of confidence 😉

They also gave us tangy mukbap (acorn jelly salad) as a side, and I slurped it down feeling so refreshed hehe. It was hot that afternoon and I was sweating, so the sour and cool mukbap was so delicious - ✨️

Next up, this pa-kimchi (green onion kimchi) is seriously amazing, and while grilling the meat they also grill tofu alongside it, you know? Putting this grilled tofu together with the pa-kimchi is unbelievably good 🤤

Bracken and bean sprouts, meant to be grilled in the pork fat on the cauldron lid, also come standard, and the staff grilled everything in order for us. There was nothing I had to worry about myself, so it was easy and comfortable to just enjoy the meal 🩷

There was also myeoljeot, wasabi, jeotgal (salted seafood), and pink salt to pair with the meat, all great matches - 💪🏻 I was already drooling imagining how good they'd taste with the pork belly hehe. The wasabi especially wasn't too spicy, so it was nice to pile it on generously!

+ Any side dishes you run out of can be topped up as much as you like at the in-store self-serve bar 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Most of the side dishes are handmade with so much care put in, so I kept going back for more hehe

(Finally, the two servings of pork belly arrive - ✨️) My boyfriend gave a bright smile and said the meat looked really good 🐶🫶🏻🦭 Even to my eyes the cuts looked thick, with a vivid pinkish-red color, and I could tell right away it was high quality meat

They coated the cauldron lid with fat first, then got into grilling the pork belly properly 🔥 Once the meat was cooked to a certain point, they added bean sprouts, bracken, kimchi, green onion kimchi, onion, garlic, and mushrooms, and grilled everything together! The staff were so friendly and attentive that we really enjoyed the meal hehe

The pork belly was cut into bite-sized pieces and grilled golden-brown right to the end, and in the middle they put myeoljeot and let it bubble away. This myeoljeot in particular had no fishy taste at all — just pure umami! Even my boyfriend, who normally dislikes myeoljeot, said that dipping the meat in it this time made it taste so much better 😆

Golden-brown pork belly with the skin still attached

The golden-brown pork belly looked absolutely amazing, right 😉 A savory smell spread through the restaurant and it really stirred up my appetite hehe. It was true pork belly with the skin still properly attached, so I took a bite feeling super satisfied!

A piece of pork belly dipped in myeoljeot

When I dipped it deep into the myeoljeot my boyfriend raved about and popped it all in one bite, it was seriously soooooo good 🤤 Inside the thick pork belly, the lean meat and fat blended together, and the more I chewed the more the savory flavor came through, with juices bursting in my mouth!

Two ways to eat the pork belly

  • 1) Dip in salt + pile on wasabi and eat
  • 2) Wrap it up big in a lettuce wrap

With these two combos, two servings disappeared in no time! The meat was so chewy and delicious, really 🤤🫶🏻

Finishing off with chadol jip doenjang jjigae

To wrap things up, I mixed the chadol jip doenjang jjigae with rice ✌🏻 That was my review of eating myself full at Gogigaondang, a BBQ spot in Bansong-dong, Dongtan~~~ Maybe because the good-quality meat was grilled on a cauldron lid, it just kept going in 😉

The meat quality at Gogigaondang, this Bansong-dong BBQ spot, was outstanding! They age the Herb Handon pork for 10 days, giving it a chewy and savory flavor that's truly excellent 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 If you really want to enjoy pork belly, I recommend Gogigaondang, a BBQ spot in Bansong-dong, Dongtan 🐶
