Things have been so hectic lately with wedding prep!! For a hearty meal to recover my strength, I visited 'Songnim Bok Jangeo Freshwater Eel All-You-Can-Eat Ansan City Hall Direct Store.' It's a place where you can enjoy freshwater eel without holding back, so I went in with high expectations!

As soon as I opened the door and walked in, I was met with an open, spacious hall and neatly arranged tables. The tables were spaced generously apart, making it comfortable to dine with a group, and the ventilation system was well set up, so there was no worry about smoke or smell — very pleasant!!

We arrived a little after the dinner peak had passed, so the staff were busy clearing tables after a group of customers had just left! The seating was very generous and the space quite wide, so it really does seem like a great group dinner spot for Ansan or Gojan-dong.

The all-you-can-eat time limit is 2 hours, and honestly 2 hours was more than enough — I never felt rushed and could eat at a relaxed pace!! The self-serve bar was really well stocked too!! Not just eel, but meats to grill alongside it were also prepared at the bar!!

The side dishes were also really substantial. The pungent shredded ginger and special sauce that are essential with grilled eel are a must!!! And there was perilla leaf pickle to cut the richness, sliced radish, napa cabbage kimchi, and fresh wrap vegetables, all neatly stocked. Overall the seasoning on the sides was clean and not overpowering, so it didn't ruin the eel's own flavor while still giving lots of variety to pair with it ☺️

Thick freshwater eel and the complimentary bokbunja wine

At the initial setup, they bring out the eel and meats themselves, and I was genuinely surprised by the quality of the eel!!

The pieces were really big and thick, and looked so fresh. They really seem to use good quality freshwater eel!!

And the bokbunja wine they gave us as a complimentary service!!!!! Yay! I'd heard bokbunja wine pairs really well with grilled eel, and they gave it to us for free...😱💞

Grilled eel and meat cooked over charcoal! I'm already so excited. The freshwater eel we put on the grill first was thick and fresh enough to break any stereotype about all-you-can-eat quality.

Grilled over charcoal, the outside turned golden and crispy while the inside stayed juicy and tender!!!! Cooking it over charcoal gave it that crispy-outside, tender-inside texture, and the smoky aroma was amazing.

On top of that, there was meat prepared to grill alongside the eel, so there was no chance of getting bored. Meat grilled over charcoal is of course never bad, so alternating between the savory, juicy meat and the tender eel made for a mouth full of happiness haha. Even if there's a family member who's not a big fan of seafood, this is the ultimate combo that everyone can enjoy 👍🏻👍🏻

The green onion kimchi was quite spicy, but it paired so well with the eel that I kept reaching for more :-) Doesn't the eel look really thick and fresh?!
