Jeju hanwoo restaurant from Tzuyang's Jeju episode: Dolgyeok Hanwoo

What was the first place I wanted to visit after watching the Jeju episode of Tzuyang Myeotggi? The hanwoo (Korean beef) restaurant that the cast visited with Choi Hong-man. Watching them grill and devour the meat had me drooling the whole time, and I decided right then that I had to go. I usually love hunting down good restaurants anyway, but visiting because a show made me anticipate it this much made it an even more special experience.

Where is Dolgyeok Hanwoo in Yeondong, and is there parking?

The Dolgyeok Hanwoo that Tzuyang visited sits right on Nuwemaru Street in Yeondong, Jeju City, so it was really easy to find. Parking fits about 5 cars right in front of the restaurant. If there's no spot there, you can use the nearby public parking lot!! We parked at the public lot and walked 2–3 minutes to get there.

Dolgyeok Hanwoo lets you join the waitlist through CatchTable!! Luckily there was only 1 party ahead of us, so we waited about 5 minutes before being seated.

The interior felt clean yet warm, the kind of place I could comfortably bring anyone to eat. I usually like lively places, and among the Jeju restaurants I've been searching for, this one had a genuinely energetic atmosphere that I loved.

What we ordered at Dolgyeok Hanwoo

The staff greeted us warmly too, so I was already in a good mood before even sitting down. Once seated, looking at the menu became a happy dilemma of what to choose. Like Tzuyang, I wanted to eat generously, so I ordered a variety of things. I decided to try a bit of everything from the meat menu. We started light with brisket, then rounded things out with the special cuts and the restaurant's signature garlic galbisal. Known as Choi Hong-man's go-to spot, they trim the fresh meat right before serving, and the color of the meat was truly a work of art to look at. The side dishes that arrived quickly after ordering were also neat and appetizing enough to whet our appetite fully.

How was the Dolgyeok brisket?

We started with the brisket!! I understood immediately why Tzuyang raved about it so much — one bite and it clicked. Being above 1-grade, it melted in my mouth in the most exquisite way. The deep, rich juice of Jeju hanwoo bursting in my mouth was an experience almost too good to put into words.

Garlic galbisal and hanwoo special cuts on the grill

The garlic galbisal I'd been most looking forward to hit the grill with a sizzle, and the savory aroma shot straight to my nose. Made with a special sauce featuring "manong," the Jeju dialect word for garlic, it cut through any gamey smell and filled my mouth with a sharp, deep umami. Highly recommend the garlic galbisal!

Yukhoe and doenjang sulbap to finish the meal

It felt like it would be a shame to only eat grilled cuts, so we ordered yukhoe too, and it exceeded expectations. Using fresh hanwoo gave it a chewy, springy texture, and the combination of sesame oil and the special sauce was perfect.

Watching Tzuyang's video, I'd also been curious about the yukhoe bibimbap, and even full, I kept reaching for more of this flavor. To finish, the doenjang sulbap (soybean paste rice stew) arrived bubbling away in its stone pot, its savory broth soothing our stomachs after all that rich meat. It's not easy to find a Jeju restaurant that nails both the meat and the final meal like this — we scraped the last spoonful clean, it was that good.

When is the best time to visit Dolgyeok Hanwoo?

Since being featured as Choi Hong-man's go-to Jeju spot, evenings can get busy, so I'd recommend giving yourself extra time. If you want to eat in the same lively atmosphere Tzuyang experienced, visiting right after opening or slightly outside typical mealtimes is a smart tip.
