In short

Munkkocchi Mungangjeong Jeonju Hanok Village Branch is an octopus skewer and octopus fritter street food stall on an alley off Eunhaeng-ro in Wansan-gu, Jeonju. I already wrote a review about my last trip to Jeonju Hanok Village, but there's a snack from that trip I loved so much personally that I wanted to introduce it separately! Every single time I come to Jeonju, haha, I really feel like... these people just know exactly where people's eyes light up. Ugh, in the best way.

How does everything look this delicious... While walking around the Hanok Village, I noticed everyone was carrying a skewer, so I looked closer and it turned out to be octopus!!!! So I went straaaaight there, and here's my review-♥

Where is Munkkocchi Mungangjeong in Jeonju Hanok Village, and what are its hours?

Outdoor tables down an alley off the Hanok Village main street

Munkkocchi Mungangjeong Jeonju Hanok Village Branch is a street-food-focused spot, so there's no separate indoor seating area, but they've set up outdoor bench tables so you can sit and eat simply! Honestly, whenever I get Jeonju street food to go, there's usually nowhere to sit and I end up standing around awkwardly eating it, but here there's actually a place to sit — ugh, I was so, so satisfied with this part.

Also, the area where the shop is located is on a really busy street... but instead of being right in the center of it, it's tucked one more alley in, so compared to other branches you can enjoy things a bit more relaxed, without getting jostled by crowds!!!! I think that's a strong advantage.

And there was a model out front showing what the food actually looks like, which was helpful for reference : )

Kiosk ordering: octopus skewers vs. octopus fritters

★Ordering is done via kiosk★ Let's take a look at the menu?? There's more beyond the basic menu board, so scroll down and take a look~

Kiosk menu screen at Munkkocchi Mungangjeong

As the name suggests, Munkkocchi Mungangjeong Jeonju Hanok Village Branch mainly sells mun-kkocchi (octopus skewers) and mun-gangjeong (octopus fritters)~ Mun-kkocchi is octopus grilled on a skewer and seasoned like chicken skewers, and mun-gangjeong I actually tried here for the first time — it's coated in batter and fried like Korean fried chicken (dakgangjeong), but the batter is so thin that you can really taste the crispy-yet-chewy octopus underneath.

Ahh..!!!!! They also sell Jeonju-style slushy beer here! Last time I visited Jeonju, I wandered around forever trying to find slushy beer...

What we ordered at Munkkocchi and what it cost

  • 🐙Cheese octopus fritter set (with drink): ₩11,000
  • 🍗Boneless chicken skewer (spicy): ₩5,000
  • 🍧Mango slushy: ₩3,000

*If you order the octopus fritter set, you get the fritter plus one drink included : )

Skewers grilled to order in front of you: a 5-minute wait

When I ordered a skewer, they grilled it right in front of me on the spot — since I ordered the octopus fritter, I went with a safe choice for the skewer and got chicken skewer instead~ It takes about 5 minutes to grill after ordering~

Self-serve slushy machine and Sangha Farm ice cream

Right next to it there's also a slushy machine!

When you order a slushy, you can mix it yourself and take it, filling it however you like and however much you like!

Whoa... and they were also selling Sanghamokjang ice cream! Sounds great as a palate cleanser after the spicy skewer or octopus fritter.

And out front there were tissues and straws set up too.

Mango, green apple or strawberry? Picking the mango slushy

Since the food seemed about to come out soon, they poured my slushy right on time!

I loved that the slushy came in mango, green apple, and strawberry flavors~ I picked the mango since you don't see that flavor often ><

Just looking at it makes me feel cool and refreshed!!!

How the spicy cheese octopus fritter tasted, eaten in the car

The menu items came out one by one~ For my octopus fritter, I added cheese on top and ordered it spicy.

Whoa..!!!!! The skewer was really long, and the octopus fritter had just come out so it was super hot!

A long boneless chicken skewer and a freshly made octopus fritter

Since I was heading straight to the car that day, I ate the food right there in the car after picking it up : )

Whoaaaaaa the cheese was really warm and stretched out so much, it looked incredibly delicious.

The octopus fritter was really a flavor I'd never had before. It's kind of like a fried gimmari (seaweed roll), but with really!! big!! chunks of octopus inside — the octopus has great chew, and the outer batter is crispy. I think this might honestly be one of the most unique, uncommon foods among all the Jeonju Hanok Village street food.

Next visit: the slushy beer at Munkkocchi

Jeonju Hanok Village street food is honestly so varied it makes me happy every time I look around. This day I was driving, so unfortunately I couldn't have the slushy beer, but since I saw they sell it, I'll definitely come back to have the octopus fritter and octopus skewers together with a slushy beer next time, haha. Highly, highly recommend! : )
