Jeonju Gaeksa restaurant for tomato pasta and 300g pork steak: Adam

Adam sits snugly in the alleys just behind Gaeksa, and its menu caught my eye for being oddly unique. Somewhere between Korean food and Western food, not quite either — I went for dinner at Adam in Jeonju.

Where is Adam in Jeonju, and where do you park?

Adam is on the 1st floor at 45-6 Jeonjugaeksa 2-gil, Wansan-gu, Jeonju, across from Pungnam Tourist Hotel. It's 30m from Sambaekjip, right next to Semo, and a 5-minute walk from Hanok Village.

A quick parking note: heading toward Dwaejibaksa from the restaurant, you can use the public paid parking lot (₩700/hour) or Jangmi paid parking lot (₩1,000/hour). There's no separate parking support from the restaurant.

What is the dining room at Adam like?

True to its name, Adam is a small (adam-han) space. It's compact, but the atmosphere is great, making it a good date spot for two. The interior is stylishly done up, so there's real fun in discovering this hidden gem in the Gaeksa alleys.

Tomato pasta, 14,500 won

Adam's tomato pasta runs ₩14,500. I figured a tomato pasta would be pretty simple, but the acidity in the tomato sauce was really well balanced.

The noodles were cooked just right with good bite, and the sauce coated them evenly.

Carbonara tteokbokki, 9,900 won

Carbonara tteokbokki is ₩9,900, and it was the most surprising dish at Adam. It's a fusion dish with tteokbokki (stir-fried rice cakes) tossed in carbonara cream sauce.

The cream is rich and savory, but the rice cakes keep their signature chewiness, so I genuinely couldn't tell if I was eating carbonara or tteokbokki haha.

If you like both, this combo is a must-try. I ended up trying all three dishes, and since the styles were all so different, there was never a dull moment in the meal.

Korean pork belly steak 300g, 26,000 won

Adam's Korean pork belly steak 300g is ₩26,000. It's pork belly, but plated like a steak, so it feels completely different from pork belly at a regular Korean BBQ spot.

The thick-cut Korean pork belly is sous vide then grilled, so the outside has clear grill marks while the inside stays juicy and moist.

It's still pork belly, but eating it this way felt fresh and delicious. At 300g, the portion is generous enough that it's fine to order solo too.

Is dinner at Adam worth it?

Korean pork belly steak, tomato pasta, carbonara tteokbokki — three completely different genres, and I was surprised all three were delicious. It's tucked away nicely in the Gaeksa alley, so there's fun in the hunt to find it, and the atmosphere is great too.
