In short
Simdo Hoetjip is a neighborhood sashimi restaurant in Dongdaemun, Seoul, a 5-minute walk from Exit 3 of Jegi-dong Station. Two friends ordered the B set (small) for 75,000 won, which came with three kinds of sashimi, five kinds of seafood, egg roe rice and spicy seafood champon ramyeon, plus a complimentary kim-maki roll. A good-value Jegi-dong dinner spot — from sashimi all the way to spicy champon ramyeon

I went for dinner with a friend a while back and ate sashimi at Simdo Hoetjip (심도횟집) in Jegi-dong~~

It's pretty close to my place, so I'd walked by it plenty of times before, but eating there for the first time this time, I realized it's a great spot for trying a bunch of different menu items at once.

The B set we ordered came with everything from assorted sashimi to seafood, egg roe rice, and spicy champon ramyeon, so it was great for eating all kinds of things! We were stuffed all the way home!
The interior has generous spacing between tables and a clean, tidy vibe. The seating was roomy enough to make for a comfortable meal.
What comes in the 75,000 won B set (small) for two?

These days, if you want a proper sashimi meal, the price isn't small, right? Especially when it's just two of you instead of a group — you want sashimi, you want seafood, you want soup too, but ordering each thing separately makes the total shoot right up~ Simdo Hoetjip was great on that front — ✔️the set menu is well put together~ ✔️we ordered the B set (small) for ₩75,000.
The owner kindly explained which cuts made up the three types of assorted sashimi. Having it as a mixed platter made it more fun than just eating one kind~
Each piece of sashimi was sliced nice and thick, and you could really feel the chewy texture the more you chewed. Wrapping it in perilla leaf with radish sprouts made for a clean, well-matched bite.

Five kinds of seafood: abalone, octopus, sea cucumber, sea squirt and clam
I loved that a variety of my favorite seafood came out on one plate. Abalone, octopus, sea cucumber, sea squirt, and clam were all there, so it was fun picking through them one by one — and I was especially happy to see sea squirt and sea cucumber, since I love both! Ordering those two separately would honestly be pretty pricey~

Side dishes at Simdo Hoetjip: seaweed soup, steamed egg, kimchi pancake, grilled herring
The basic side dishes came out pretty generously too~ Seaweed soup, steamed egg, clams, kimchi pancake, and more were all laid out — great pairings for the sashimi — so the whole spread felt even more filling~~~^^

The kimchi pancake in particular was grilled to a nice golden brown, so it was easy to keep picking at throughout the meal~~ The fish served separately, grilled herring, was salty and grilled well, and piled high with green onion shreds — the fish's savory flavor and the onion's freshness went really well together!

Making your own sushi with the sashimi
After just eating the sashimi plain for a while, we also made our own sushi with it. We ordered the sushi rice separately. Making our own sushi turned out to be quite the treat too.~

We put a little wasabi on the rice, added aged kimchi and a piece of sashimi on top, then topped it off with a bit of the accompanying sides. It started as just something to try for fun, but once we actually ate it, it turned out to be a pretty convincing sushi! Good stuff
Partway through, the owner also brought out kim-maki (seaweed roll) separately, and it seemed like a little something extra from the owner, which made me even happier.
Putting a piece of sashimi inside with a bit of vinegared gochujang was another nice treat. The owner carefully checked in on us throughout the meal and even threw in these little extras, so I got a real sense of how kind they were. These small touches tend to stick with you~~^^
With a spread of seafood in front of you, a cold shot of soju is a must, right? Picking at fresh sashimi and seafood one bite at a time while drinking, the soju went down smooth haha

For a drinking snack, we made sushi. Great, great snack!

Finishing with egg roe rice and champon ramyeon
Egg roe rice also came out partway through the meal. Mixing the popping roe with savory seaweed flakes and kimchi made for a slightly spicy, savory flavor that came together nicely.

The part of the B set I especially loved: the spicy champon ramyeon!!! At sashimi restaurants, it's practically a given that you crave a warm soup at the end after all that sashimi, and most places bring out spicy fish stew — but here, champon came with the set as part of the B set, which I loved!!

There was so much seafood packed in that it felt less like eating regular ramyeon and more like a proper seafood champon simmered right at a sashimi restaurant.
Is Simdo Hoetjip a good Jegi-dong sashimi spot for two?
The flow from sashimi to seafood to egg roe rice to champon ramyeon was enough for a full meal on its own, and it also worked well as a slow dinner with a drink or two~ Being able to eat several menu items within one set without ordering anything extra is the biggest perk of Simdo Hoetjip's B set!
Visiting Simdo Hoetjip in Jegi-dong with a friend felt less like a fancy, pricey sashimi restaurant and more like a neighborhood spot you can casually drop into for sashimi and a variety of seafood. The B set (small) I ate for ₩75,000 came with three types of assorted sashimi, five types of seafood, egg roe rice, and champon ramyeon — all in one menu item, which made it great for enjoying a variety of things in one go!
I especially liked the champon ramyeon loaded generously with seafood, and making my own sushi with the sashimi, rice, and wasabi was memorable too — I think I'll be stopping by again whenever I'm craving sashimi.
