Peking duck set for three at Mirim Yangjang, a Seolleung Chinese bar

In short

Mirim Yangjang Seolleung Branch is a Peking duck specialist Chinese restaurant and bar on the basement level near Seolleung Station in Gangnam, Seoul. Three friends ordered the Peking Duck 3-Person SET (84,000 won), choosing fish-fragrant eggplant (eohyang gaji) as the side dish and malatang as the soup, and a half order of egg noodles from the review event filled the table completely. With private rooms and group seating, Mirim Yangjang Seolleung Branch works well for a Seolleung work dinner or a night out with friends.

So this time all the friends I was meeting live around Seolleung, so I went looking for good spots nearby. It'd been a while since we'd all gotten together, so eating just okay food wasn't going to cut it, haha. Instead of the usual meat we always go for, we decided to properly go for Chinese food this time :)

This time we visited Mirim Yangjang Seolleung Branch! It's a place where Peking duck is the main event, but you can also enjoy a bunch of other Chinese dishes alongside it. The restaurant was bigger than I expected, with space for groups, so it seemed like a great spot for friend gatherings or a Seolleung work dinner. That day we ordered the 3-person set that comes with Peking duck, and chose mapo eggplant and mala soup as our picks, haha.

Where is Mirim Yangjang Seolleung Branch, and what does it look like?

Mirim Yangjang Seolleung Branch is in an easy walking distance from Seolleung Station!

Alley exterior and sign of Mirim Yangjang Seolleung Branch

Coming down the alley, you'll spot a big sign reading 美林洋莊 in Chinese characters, which made it easier to find than I expected! The restaurant is on the basement level, so you head down the stairs from the entrance. Outside, there are big photos of Peking duck and hot pot posted up, so you already get the sense before going in that this is a proper Chinese specialty spot!

Inside Mirim Yangjang: private rooms and group seating

Going down the stairs, the interior is mainly red too! Once inside, the place was bigger than I thought — white tables, black chairs, mixed with red made for an interior that was clean but still clearly had that Chinese vibe.

There were several signed photos posted up, fun to look around at. Solbi and Lee Naeun have apparently visited too. And besides the regular hall seating, there's also a separate space! Good for gatherings.

Group seating area with a long table

There's a room with a long table and a fairly well set up space for several people to sit together, so it seemed good not just for friend gatherings but for a Seolleung or Gangnam work dinner too! On one side you can see Peking ducks hanging in a row, which made me think

ah, we really came here to eat Peking duck properly, haha.

Drinks fridge stocked with alcohol at the restaurant

Chinese food really does go well with alcohol. The drinks fridge was packed too — soju like Chamisul, Chum Churum, Jinro, plus Hwayo and Ilpum Jinro, and beers like Tsingtao, Harbin, Cass, Terra were all lined up in variety. Since so many Chinese dishes pair well with drinks, it seemed great for ordering a few dishes with a group and having a drink!

Table setting and how to order

Peanuts and a pickle made with bean sprouts, I think, are set out first.

What's on the menu at Mirim Yangjang Seolleung Branch?

Looking at the menu, there were way more items than I expected.

Sides and soup dishes menu board

The signature Peking duck can be ordered as a half or whole a la carte, and there are also sets for 3, 4, 6, or 10 people!

Besides Peking duck, there was a good variety of Chinese dishes — mains like dongpo pork belly, five-spice braised pork, fried eggplant, mapo eggplant (fish-fragrant eggplant), sweet and sour pork, mapo tofu, fried pork ribs, kung pao shrimp, and crispy chicken; dim sum like shumai, guotie (pan-fried dumplings), shrimp spring rolls, and steamed pork dumplings; soup dishes like mala soup and jjamppong soup; and for meals or sides there was Hong Kong-style egg noodles, mala ragu egg noodles, mayisangshu, garlic scape pork fried rice, stir-fried water spinach, and Sichuan-style fries.

There were menu items you'd often see at Chinese restaurants, but also more distinctive ones like black pepper fried pork and stir-fried pig ear with bean sprouts, so I'd recommend ordering a bunch to share if you come with a group, haha. And the drink selection was really diverse too.

Soju and beer are the basics, but there's also Chinese liquor like Yantai Gaoliang, Gongfujiu, Zhuge Liang, and Yanghe Daqu, plus highballs like the Yantai tonic set, black tea highball, and Fengli highball, and even whiskeys like Glenfiddich, Macallan, and Balvenie, along with red and white wine and champagne.

With so many Chinese dishes and such a wide range of drinks, this seems less like a casual quick-meal spot and more like a place for a group to order a bunch of dishes and have a few drinks!

What we ordered: the Peking Duck 3-Person SET for 84,000 won

Peking Duck 3-Person SET (₩84,000) (mapo eggplant +₩1,000, mala soup +₩3,000 as picks) / Half egg noodles (review event) / Coca-Cola (₩3,000)

That's pretty much it ~.~ The 3-person set includes half a Peking duck, a choice dish, wood ear mushroom and cucumber salad, and a soup, and we picked mapo eggplant and mala soup.

Table full of dishes served

Even before the main Peking duck came out, the mapo eggplant, mala soup, and egg noodles arrived and the table filled up instantly, hahaha. The portions were seriously huge — a great setup for tasting a bit of everything.

Fish-fragrant eggplant (eohyang gaji)

Mapo eggplant topped generously with sauce

Big chunks of fried eggplant came out generously topped with sauce. Sweet, tangy, and a little spicy — the kind of flavor that keeps you reaching for more! The eggplant really soaked up the sauce, so each bite hit with a strong sauce flavor. I already like eggplant so I loved it, but I think even people who don't usually eat eggplant could get into this style, haha.

Malatang (spicy Sichuan soup)

And the second choice dish, mala soup! It came out piping hot in a big earthenware pot, looking hearty from the start. Loaded with napa cabbage, bean sprouts, mushrooms and more, with plenty of broth too. It was spicy with that distinct mala aroma, and I was glad we'd added a soup dish. Personally the combo was so good.

Mala soup served in an earthenware pot

Wood ear mushroom and cucumber salad, plus egg noodles

The wood ear mushroom cucumber salad was tangy and salty, perfect for waking up your appetite! When the duck started to feel a bit rich, we'd grab a bite of this — great for cleansing the palate in between.

Half portion of egg noodles from the review event

Oh and this was even something we just got from the review event — egg noodles — but this was the half portion...? The portion size was such a steal... and the taste was amazing too. I ate the most of this one.

The main event: wrapping Peking duck in thin pancakes

Finally, the main dish arrived ><

A plate of carved Peking duck

It came out already carved and ready to eat, and the first thing that caught my eye the moment the plate arrived was of course the skin! Golden brown and glistening, it looked delicious even just in photos, haha. The skin was crispy and savory while the meat inside was juicier than expected. The meat was pretty thick too, and it tasted best when eating the skin and meat together.

Along with the Peking duck, warm pancakes come out in a bamboo steamer too. There was film layered between the pancakes, making it easy to peel off one at a time. Since they came out warm, they felt moist and soft to the touch! They weren't too thick either, which made them perfect for wrapping the duck. Cucumber, scallion, and sauce come along to garnish as well.

Spread out a pancake, add the duck, top with cucumber and scallion, brush on the sauce, and that's it! Rolled up and eaten in one bite, it was a totally different experience from eating just the duck alone. The savory, crispy Peking duck skin, the crunchy cucumber, the aroma of scallion, all pulled together with the sweet and salty sauce — the whole flavor came together perfectly, haha. In particular, the cucumber and scallion cut through the richness of the duck, so it didn't get greasy as fast as I expected. Personally, wrapping in the crispy skin along with the meat tasted way better than just the meat alone!

The skin was seriously mind-blowing, and I left stuffed to the brim, ha_ha.

Verdict: is Mirim Yangjang a good Seolleung spot for group dinners?

⭐️Verdict: Mirim Yangjang Seolleung Branch was great for when you want something a bit different from the usual meat or seafood restaurants around Seolleung! From the main Peking duck to the mapo eggplant and spicy mala soup, each dish had such a distinct flavor that the set combo worked really well.

The restaurant is fairly spacious with separate rooms and group seating, so it seems good not just for people looking for Seolleung restaurants or restaurants near Seolleung Station, but also for anyone looking for a Seolleung or Gangnam dinner spot for a group. There's also a wide range of drinks, so next time I want to pair the Peking duck with a Tsingtao, haha. If you're looking for a place to eat Peking duck near Seolleung Station, highly recommend!!
