Danyang café with high chairs and second-floor seating: JB Coffee

While looking for a good bingsu (shaved ice dessert) spot in Danyang to visit with my kid, I found JB Coffee. I went with my husband and our child, and right away the menu name caught my curiosity — 'Maneulinjularatdanyang' (마늘인줄알았단양), which roughly means 'I thought it was garlic'!

Danyang is famous for garlic, but a dessert actually shaped like garlic? I had to order it just to see what it tasted like.

The café is near Danyang Gugyeong Market, so it's a good spot to swing by after browsing the market.

We visited on the last day of our trip with my husband and child, and the interior was more spacious than I expected, so we could relax without feeling cramped.

On one side, there's a huge display of figurines, so our kid had fun looking around at all of them.

What we ordered at JB Coffee

We ordered an iced americano plus all three flavors of Maneulinjularatdanyang — strawberry, banana, and melon — this time we tried all of them.

They're round like actual cloves of garlic, so at first glance they really do look like garlic, which is funny. But once you taste it, there's no garlic flavor at all — it's a sweet, cool dessert.

Since we were visiting with our 5-year-old, it mattered whether the menu was something the kid could actually eat. She had the strawberry flavor without any coffee. The espresso comes separately, so kids can eat theirs plain while adults pour coffee over theirs — a really nice touch.

We poured the espresso over the adults' portions, and the sweet, cool dessert paired surprisingly well with the coffee's bitterness.

Going to a café with a kid, you always have to worry whether a dessert secretly has coffee in it — so being able to keep them separate made it easy for the whole family to enjoy together.

The garlic-shaped details worth a closer look

It's not just the big garlic shape — look closer at the bottom and there are tiny garlic-shaped chocolates tucked in too. My kid and I had fun asking each other, 'Is this real garlic?'

Scooping it up with the little shovel-shaped spoon was fun too. Shaped like garlic but tasting like a sweet dessert — it's not something you see often in Danyang, which made it memorable.

A Danyang café that welcomes dogs indoors

JB Coffee allows dogs indoors. We don't have a dog so we didn't bring one along, but if you're planning a Danyang trip with a dog, this could be handy to know.

Especially when the weather isn't great during a trip, it can be hard to find indoor spaces you can bring a dog into — so having that option indoors stood out. Recommended Danyang café!!

Is JB Coffee a good stop with a young child?

We went as a family of three, and rather than just a café you grab a drink and leave, this was a place where we could try a unique dessert, look at the figurines, and rest for a bit on the second floor.

Especially on the last day of a trip, when you're worn out from running around, this was a nice little rest stop before heading straight home after checkout.

If you want something a bit more special than your typical Danyang café dessert, try JB Coffee.

If you're visiting with kids, it might be nice to each enjoy it your own way — the kid with plain strawberry, the adults with espresso added.
