Pizza seolgi has been popping up on social media lately! I was curious because it is rice cake topped like a pizza, and as soon as I saw that Tteokmama's Gaesin branch had released a new pizza seolgi, I ran over right after work hahaha 🏃♀️💨

The biggest reason I went to Tteokmama that day was pizza seolgi! It had looked quite cute in photos, but in person it looked even more appetizing than I expected, so I wanted to try it right away. When you think of seolgi, you normally picture a plain white steamed rice cake, so adding the word pizza gave it such a different feel haha.

I went for pizza seolgi and ended up browsing a whole lot of rice cakes

Honestly, I went in thinking only about pizza seolgi, you know? But once I entered, there were soooooo many more kinds of rice cake than I expected. “Oh... this looks good too?” “Wouldn't this make a nice gift too?” And before I knew it, I was looking at them one by one hahaha. I thought a rice cake shop would have just a few traditional varieties, but there were so many choices, from great snack rice cakes to menu items that looked lovely for gifts, so it was fun just to browse.

And since my visit was right before Chuseok, I found myself thinking, “Ah, what should I give the people close to me this Chuseok?” 🎁

Rather than sending the same old gift set to close friends or family every time, I thought rice cakes or snackable treats like yakgwa (honey cookies) and oranda (puffed-rice bars) would be nice gifts too! Rice cakes and traditional snacks suit a wide range of ages, and they are great for enjoying one at a time with a cup of tea, so they seem like an easy way to show you care during the holidays.

From cream glutinous rice cakes to sikhye and sujeonggwa

Then I went over to the refrigerated display, and there were so many varieties, from cream glutinous rice cakes to fruit glutinous rice cakes! There were lots of flavors too, so it seemed easy to choose according to your taste. The more I looked, the more I wanted to try this one and that one hahaha 🤣

Oh, and so your throat does not get dry while eating rice cake hahaha, they also sell sikhye (sweet rice punch) and sujeonggwa (cinnamon punch)! What I realized this time was that Tteokmama is the sort of place where you go to buy just one rice cake and end up looking at other things too. Rice cakes have become so varied these days that, while I used to seek them out only for holidays or special events, now I think it would be perfectly nice to visit just for a snack. 🍡

Five-color sesame songpyeon and pizza seolgi I brought home with both hands full

I really packed up a whole bunch of things hahaha. I was going to pop in, buy only pizza seolgi, and leave, but then I wanted to try this, and that looked delicious too hahaha. In the end, I left with both hands full ฅ^._.^ฅ

Still, since I bought lots of delicious rice cakes, it was fun getting home and trying them one by one haha. The five-color sesame songpyeon (half-moon rice cakes) and pizza seolgi were sooo good 🍡🍕 !!!!! I first visited Tteokmama, the rice cake shop in Cheongju's Gaesin-dong, because of the pizza seolgi, but now I am already wondering which rice cake to try next time 🤎
