Yeongdeungpo mall café for a shopping lunch with grapefruit ade: Mela

In short

Mela Times Square is a European home-style brunch café on the first floor of Times Square in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul, directly across from H&M. Dropping in mid-shopping with a friend, the writer shared minari (water dropwort) vongole for 23,000 won, truffle mushroom eggs benedict for 20,000 won, and a grapefruit ade for 7,500 won. With white brick walls and green plants keeping the room bright and clean, Mela Times Square is an easy sit-down meal to slot into a day of shopping.

Brunch table at Mela Times Square

I met up with a friend at Times Square to shop and grab lunch. This time we visited Mela Times Square, a European home-style brunch café!

With its bright, clean atmosphere where you can enjoy pasta and brunch together, I wanted to recommend it as a meal spot while shopping.

A brunch café right on the Times Square shopping route

Mela is near the H&M store on the 1st floor of Times Square, so it wasn't hard to find. It's convenient to stop in for a meal while shopping, and also a good spot to head back to browsing afterward.

Mela's entrance decorated with green color and stripes

Even from the green color and striped decor at the entrance, it had a European café feel. It had its own character even inside a mall, so it caught my eye before I even walked in.

Inside Mela: white brick walls and green plants

Overall, the interior gave a bright, clean impression. Green plant decorations blend with white brick walls, and the wood chairs add a warm touch.

The arched frames and wall lighting were pretty too, and the striped seats added a lively accent to the space. It wasn't overly formal, so it was easy to enjoy a relaxed brunch with a friend. I could also get clean food photos on the bright tables :)

What we ordered at Mela Times Square, and what it cost

  • Minari (water dropwort) vongole (₩23,000)
  • Truffle mushroom eggs benedict (₩20,000)
  • Grapefruit ade (₩7,500)

Grapefruit ade, 7,500 won: the drink to pair with brunch

For the drink, I picked grapefruit ade. In the clear glass, the grapefruit's red tint spread out softly — cool-looking just to see! You can see the grapefruit flesh among the ice, and it's best to stir it well down to the bottom before drinking.

The grapefruit's distinct bitterness combined with sweetness and sparkling fizz made a great pairing for brunch. It was nice to take a sip between bites of pasta and eggs benedict to freshen my palate :)

Minari (water dropwort) vongole, 23,000 won

The first dish was Mela's signature pasta, minari vongole! It's made with hard clams and littleneck clams plus sun-dried tomatoes, and the green minari (water dropwort) on top stands out.

Vongole pasta topped with minari

The clams' savory flavor combined with the fragrant minari made for a clean, enjoyable combo. Twirling the noodles together with the minari gives it a charm different from a regular vongole.

Adding the lemon served on the side to taste gives it a fresh flavor.

This would suit anyone who prefers oil-based pasta over cream sauce, or who's looking for a dish with fragrant vegetables.

Truffle mushroom eggs benedict, 20,000 won

For the brunch dish, I picked the truffle mushroom eggs benedict. It's built with mushrooms, spinach, and caramelized onions over bread, topped with a poached egg and finished with hollandaise sauce.

Enjoying the mushroom and truffle aroma together with the soft egg felt like a real brunch combo. Cutting it so the bread and toppings fit in one bite lets all the ingredients come together.

On the side, it comes with salad and julienned carrots that are nice to alternate with. Between the yellow sauce, green salad, and orange carrots, the colors were pretty and it stood out on the table.

Verdict: an unhurried lunch with a friend between shops

What I especially liked about Mela Times Square was the bright, clean space and the convenient location. It's good for ordering one pasta and one brunch dish to share, and easy to fit into a shopping schedule. If you're looking for a Yeongdeungpo brunch café and care about atmosphere and convenient location too, this one's worth considering :)
