I stopped by Times Square over the weekend and figured I'd grab a light brunch and a coffee, so I headed to Mela Times Square.

I originally planned to eat something light alone and head out, but the vibe was better than expected and the menu looked good too, so now I'm thinking I should bring my wife next time haha.

Today I'll walk through what I ordered and ate myself: truffle mushroom eggs benedict, mushroom avocado poached egg salad, and an iced americano.

Mela Times Square: a brunch café inside the Times Square mall
Mela Times Square is located inside Times Square, so it was easy to get to.

It felt like a great spot to stop for a meal without going out of your way while shopping or browsing around.

Maybe because it was the weekend, there were quite a few people out enjoying brunch when I visited, and the atmosphere overall felt lively.

Visiting alone, I settled into a seat and took my time picking out the menu.

Three dishes ordered for one at Mela
On this visit to Mela Times Square, I ordered truffle mushroom eggs benedict, mushroom avocado poached egg salad, and an iced americano.

- Iced americano

I wondered if I'd over-ordered for eating alone, but once the food arrived, it looked pretty great. A combination that brunch lovers would find appealing.

What does the truffle mushroom eggs benedict taste like?
I started with the dish I was most looking forward to: the truffle mushroom eggs benedict.

With eggs benedict, the appeal really is breaking the poached egg and eating it together with the sauce.

The soft poached egg paired with the mushrooms gave it a clean yet flavorful taste, and with the truffle aroma added on top, it felt different from a basic eggs benedict.

I tend to order eggs benedict whenever I go for brunch, and this time was no exception — glad I did haha.

Eating slowly on my own with coffee on the side made for a relaxed weekend lunch.

Mushroom avocado poached egg salad: filling enough on its own
The second dish was the mushroom avocado poached egg salad.

It wasn't just a light plate of vegetables — with mushrooms, avocado, and a poached egg all together, it ended up being more filling than I expected.
The soft texture of the avocado paired especially well with the moist poached egg, and adding the mushrooms kept the texture from feeling one-note.

If you want something a bit lighter to go alongside your brunch dish, I think this is a solid choice.

How the iced americano rounds out the brunch
And of course, the iced americano. Drinking it alongside the brunch dishes definitely cleaned up my palate nicely.

Personally, an americano really works well with something as soft and rich as eggs benedict.

Is Mela Times Square comfortable for solo brunch?
Visiting alone this time, it felt less like eating alone and more like coming out to properly enjoy brunch.
Being inside Times Square, it's easy to continue shopping or browsing before or after your meal, and it also seemed like a good spot to visit with friends or a partner.

I went alone this time, but eating through the menu made me think I'd like to come back with my wife and share a few different dishes.

It was good for solo dining, but visiting as a pair and ordering a variety of dishes to share sounds like it would be fun too.
