Bakery cutting service and closing sale at Boulangerie Copain, Mapo

In short

Boulangerie Copain is a baguette-and-croissant bakery on Huiujeong-ro near Mapo, Seoul, close to Exit 2 of Mangwon Station. Visiting on a weekday afternoon, the writer asked staff for the plain baguette, had the chocolate baguette cut on request, and brought home croissants, salt bread, a mini loaf of bread, and a ham-cheese baguette sandwich. A solid pick for anyone who likes plain, understated bread and plans to take it to Mangwon Hangang Park.

Getting there from Mangwon Station

Boulangerie Copain is closest to Exit 2 of Mangwon Station, but I actually took bus Mapo 16 🚏 Getting off at Hwapyeong Church puts you right in front of the store, so I'd recommend the bus a bit more than the subway.

The store is on the ground floor, and with Mangwon-dong's walking paths and Han River park nearby, it's a great bakery to grab bread from and take with you.

There's paid parking in front of the store too, but spots don't open up easily, so the public lot is probably a better bet.

September 2026 has a long Chuseok holiday 💡 so it's closed on September 25 and 26 💡 Please note this before visiting!!

Delivery is available through Baemin and Coupang Eats, and there's a daily closing sale too. Spend over ₩20,000 → 20% off, spend over ₩30,000 → 30% off.

Signage near the entrance of Boulangerie Copain

Boulangerie Copain is run with real care by an owner who used to work at the Shilla Hotel, kneading and baking the croissants and baguettes by hand every day for the best flavor. It's a signature Mangwon-dong spot that's even appeared on the TV show Masters of Living 🫧

There's a wide variety of breads — croissants, sandwich loaves, baguettes and more. The must-try items are said to be baguette, sandwich loaf, and croissant. Maybe that's why there were the most types of baguette and loaf, and I really lingered a long time trying to choose.

The plain baguette: ask staff for it

The plain baguette isn't displayed — you have to ask a staff member and they'll bring it out for you. Please keep this in mind! 🤍

I visited on a weekday afternoon, so it wasn't crowded, and I got the cutting service with no wait at all. Staff cut and package it up quickly with really nimble hands.

Bag of bread after being cut and packaged

They even have café menu items, so it seems perfect for grabbing takeout and enjoying it nearby. The weather's warmed up a lot lately, and I'm craving the Han River .. 🤍

By now everyone knows bags cost extra at most places, right? I really hope there's no one out there saying "how am I supposed to carry this," or "just give it for free, how much can it possibly cost" .. 🙏🏻

I didn't think I'd picked much while filling my tray, but once it was all packed up it was a full haul .. such is the life of a bread lover.

Tasting everything at home

Croissant

I was so hungry the second I got home, so I ate the croissant first. Wanting it crispy, I warmed it in the air fryer. One bite in, and I understood why it's the signature menu item. The flavor leaned toward plain, understated rather than flashy, and even though croissants can get sickly-sweet, the subtle butter aroma made it disappear in no time. If you're not eating it right away, I highly recommend the air fryer reheat!!

Salt bread

The salt bread was smaller than I expected. Honestly, since this place is famous for its baguettes, I didn't have high expectations .. but you can see the butter packed at the bottom!! How could I resist buying it after seeing that. I added it in a rush at the register, and even though the butter pocket wasn't huge, the soft texture of the salt bread and its not-too-sweet flavor made me think, wow, salt bread can be delicious like this too. At ₩3,500, it's a great-value item.

Ham-cheese baguette sandwich

Boulangerie Copain's signature ham-cheese baguette sandwich! I was really looking forward to this one. It comes wrapped up all secretive-like haha.

Cross-section of the ham and cheese baguette sandwich

The baguette really is just ham and cheese, simple as that, and the baguette itself is crispy and plain while the ham and cheese are salty, making for a really great combination. This is a menu item I'd buy again.

Mini sandwich loaf

I bought the mini size loaf, which is about 2-3 servings' worth. That's by small-appetite standards!!!!! This one also had an excellent plain flavor, and it gave off a really strong health-bread feel. It's even better with jam spread on it 🫧🤍

Chocolate baguette

The one I was looking forward to the mo~~~~~st — the chocolate baguette. It's huge, with an overwhelming look to it, impossible not to grab. It's on the cuttable menu, so just ask and they'll cut it for you ✔️

It's packed with chocolate chips, which left a strong impression with every bite, and even as a chocolate baguette it still had that strong plain flavor — leaning toward richness rather than sweetness, which I actually liked since it wasn't overly sweet.

Who should visit

Boulangerie Copain is great for grabbing takeout if you're headed to Mangwon Hangang Park or the walking paths nearby. I'd recommend the baguette and croissant, and highly recommend it for anyone who likes plain, understated bread. If you're doing a Mangwon-dong bakery tour, you won't regret stopping here 🫧🤍
