Yangju grill house pork neck a 25-month-old ate alone: Manpo Garden

In short

Manpo Garden is a galbi (marinated short rib) and grilled meat restaurant on Godeok-ro 355beon-gil in Yangju, Gyeonggi. The family ordered 2 servings of yangnyeom galbi (marinated short rib) and 1 serving of pork neck, and the 25-month-old child ate almost the entire pork neck serving alone because it came unmarinated and lean. Between the private rooms, the wide gaps between tables and the free naengmyeon (cold noodles) served after the meat, Manpo Garden made an easy family dinner with a toddler.

These days when we eat out with our kid, I naturally end up checking not just the food but whether the atmosphere is comfortable for a meal (parents raising little ones will relate haha).

First shot on arrival at Manpo Garden in Yangju

What side dishes and dessert naengmyeon come with a meal at Manpo Garden?

This time we went out as a family after a while for some fresh galbi, and while looking for a rib place, we ended up at Manpo Garden, which is close to our home in Yangju Okjeong. The basic side dishes that came out included radish salad, potato salad, doraji (bellflower root) salad, pickles, white kimchi, spicy cucumber salad, salad, yukhoe (beef tartare), yukjeon (beef pancake), and lettuce salad.

Overall everything came out neat and tidy, and you can help yourself to extra side dishes from the self-service corner! Order meat and you get free naengmyeon (cold noodles) for dessert!

Which cut should you order at Manpo Garden when you have a toddler?

What we ordered that day was 2 servings of yangnyeom galbi (marinated short rib) and 1 serving of pork neck. Since we came for galbi, I definitely wanted to try the marinated ribs, and for Yeonwoo's meat I picked pork neck with no marinade and less fat.

What is the atmosphere like inside Manpo Garden?

When we first walked into Manpo Garden, I was really surprised at how upscale and clean the interior looked, more than I expected. It felt like a high-end restaurant, and I really loved the lighting and tables.

The vibe was a bit different from a typical Korean BBQ place — calm, tidy, and modern overall, which made it seem like a good fit for a family meal (especially a place where bringing your parents along earns you some brownie points!!).

Private rooms and table spacing at Manpo Garden

Beyond the modern vibe, I loved that Manpo Garden has separate private rooms. There are several sizeable rooms, so it seems like a good spot to reserve ahead.

When you're eating with a young kid, you inevitably get self-conscious about nearby tables, but eating in a private room makes it so much more comfortable. With the wide picture windows and clean atmosphere, it seemed like a great spot for family gatherings too.

We didn't have a reservation, so we didn't eat in a private room. Yeonwoo moved around and needed attention here and there, but the tables were spaced far enough apart that we could eat without worrying much about other tables. That definitely made things easier.

How a 25-month-old ate a whole pork neck serving

We grilled the pork neck first. Our kid loves meat but is picky about which cuts, so we don't usually order much when we eat out in case she won't eat it. Not gonna lie — she finished the whole serving of pork neck by herself that day!!

When she eats well, we can relax and enjoy the meal too. Once we'd grilled up her portion, we moved on to the marinated galbi, and putting the marinated meat on the charcoal really gave off that classic Korean BBQ feeling.

Meat from the livestock co-op next door, with cuts you choose yourself

Yangnyeom galbi goes well with rice and is an easy, safe order. Chatting while grilling, one plate disappeared before we knew it.

Another thing I liked about Manpo Garden was that all the main meat menus are supplied through the livestock cooperative right next door.

Anyone with kids will get this — freshness is always on your mind when it comes to meat, and knowing it's distributed straight from the cooperative next door gave me a bit more confidence. How the meat is managed and where it comes from is something I quietly pay attention to when choosing a restaurant, so having this system in place was a plus.

Being able to pick your preferred cut separately was another perk. People who love meat all have different favorite cuts — some like galbi, some like pork belly or pork neck — so being able to choose rather than just eating a set menu was really nice.

The dessert bibim (spicy) and mul (water) naengmyeon tasted even better because they were free.

Iced coffee and ppeong-twigi (puffed rice snack) after dinner

Next time we come back, I think I'll pick a different specialty cut. Both the pork neck and the marinated galbi were really fresh, so I'm curious about the specialty cuts too.

After the meal, there was an espresso-over-ice cup setup at the entrance for iced coffee, and Yeonwoo got some ppeong-twigi (puffed rice snack). Both the kid and the parents left satisfied with the meal and dessert hahaha.

Is Manpo Garden worth it for a family meal in Yangju?

Manpo Garden had such a nice atmosphere thanks to its upscale interior, and it seemed especially well suited for family gatherings.

A bit of extra info — I ended up chatting with the mom and kid at the table behind us, and they mentioned they'd be hosting a dol (first birthday) party in one of the private rooms the following week. This restaurant didn't exist yet when Yeonwoo had her dol party, so we had a small family celebration instead. Ah, that stings a little.

Overall, it's a good place to visit when you want a clean, comfortable atmosphere for eating meat with family. If you're looking for a place to eat with family in Yangju, or searching for a good galbi restaurant in Yangju, I'd recommend Manpo Garden. Since Yeonwoo finished almost a whole serving of pork neck on her own that day, we're already thinking naturally about our next visit.
