Top-only straightening for curly hair at Yangju salon Hair Design Whur

I'm a pro-curly-haired person who needs magic straightening on a regular cycle, but this time I couldn't make it to the salon when I was due, so I just... let it go. It got hot out and my curls went absolutely wild, so the moment I could get to a salon, straightening was priority one. I searched frantically for a good hair salon in Ok-jeong-dong and found Hair Design Whur Ok-jeong Branch! Here's my real magic straightening review.

Where is Hair Design Whur Ok-jeong Branch, and where do you park?

• Address: 177 Ok-jeong-dong-ro, 3rd floor, Yangju-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea
• Hours: 10:00 – 20:00, closed 1st and 3rd Sunday of every month
• Parking: Building basement parking available (narrow, so I'd recommend the public parking lot right next door)

Hair Design Whur Ok-jeong Branch is on the 3rd floor of a building with Gorae Pharmacy and Seolmaek on the 1st floor — from outside, there's a huge Lee Sedol Baduk (Go) Academy sign on the 2nd floor, so it's not hard to find.

Inside the Yangju salon: a big mirror and an Okjeong Lake Park view

Walking in, the huge mirror catches your eye right away! It's genuinely enormous. The place has a bit of a café vibe too — a quiet, small salon with just two designers working. I liked how the seating layout felt kind of private!

Through one window you can see Ok-jeong Lake Park — lush green trees, blue sky, just beautiful. This place is a view hotspot!

There's a spot to hang up your coat, and right next to it is the shampoo room.

Membership prices and the consultation: how only the top gets straightened

Recommended hair salon in Ok-jeong-dong, Hair Design Whur, has a membership program. Prepay ₩300,000, ₩500,000, or ₩1,000,000 and you get bonus credit added on to use later — seems like a great deal. You get even more bonus if you pay in cash 🐶🍯

I sat down with Designer Haneul and we started with a consultation first. My hair was way too frizzy and puffy, so I was torn between volume magic straightening and magic setting, and I mentioned I was planning to grow my hair out. After looking at my hair and hearing me out, she said since I was growing it out and still had a lot of the C-curl perm left, straightening just the top section would probably work great. Ohh, there was a method like this haha. Less damage to the hair, top section straight, bottom section keeping the C-curl! Exactly what I wanted. Reading it back it sounds like the consultation was quick, but it actually took a really long time and was super thorough. So glad she consulted so carefully 👍🏻

The straightening and clinic treatment, step by step in 2.5 hours

My hair was so dry that we decided to add a clinic treatment too — shampoo first, then the clinic treatment started right away!

I munched on some snacks too 🐷🐷

Since I wanted my bangs as a side bang, she rolled them separately. (Before starting, she trimmed just the bangs first.)

With the green view in front of me, my hair got straightened diligently — including neutralization, it took about two and a half hours and the magic straightening was finally done! It took a bit longer since the clinic treatment was worked in between steps.

The result: no length cut, just bulk and texture tidied up

The clean straightening and C-curl perm combo I wanted!! So happy about this. After the neutralization, she didn't cut my length at all at the end, just thinned it out and cleaned up the texture — but it turned into a totally different head of hair!! I need to grow my hair, so I'm thrilled the length didn't get shorter! I'd been so stressed about my hair that I was wearing hats nonstop, but now I don't have to anymore, so happy 💛
