Ttukseom Station tonkatsu spot: king shrimp katsu set for two at Kosi

In short

Kosi Seongsu Branch is an udon and tonkatsu restaurant on Sangwon 1-gil near Ttukseom Station in Seongdong, Seoul. Two people visiting at 2pm ordered the tempura bukkake udon set, the king shrimp katsu set and 2 pieces of sweet potato cheese croquette for 35,000 won in total; ordering the set versions means the udon dish arrives with tonkatsu and the tonkatsu dish arrives with udon, which is ideal when you want both. The springy cold udon noodles were the top pick at Kosi Seongsu Branch, and the many single seats make it easy for solo diners too.

What two people ordered at Kosi Seongsu Branch for 35,000 won

This time the order was the tempura bukkake udon set, the king shrimp katsu set, and 2 pieces of sweet potato cheese croquette.

With all that ordered, the total came to 35,000 won!

Two people ate udon, tonkatsu, shrimp katsu, and croquette — pretty solid pricing for Ttukseom/Seongsu.

À la carte or set at Kosi Seongsu Branch: what is the difference?

Simply put, it comes down to what gets added to the main dish. Order the udon menu as a set and tonkatsu comes with it; order the tonkatsu menu as a set and udon comes with it!

So for anyone wanting both udon and tonkatsu, the set is going to feel way better than ordering à la carte.

Tempura bukkake udon set: how springy are the cold noodles?

This was the dish the writer was most looking forward to that day. Tempura bukkake udon is a cold udon you mix with tsuyu (dipping sauce), topped here with shrimp tempura and sweet pumpkin tempura — the look alone was on point.

Poured on a generous amount of tsuyu, mixed it into the noodles, and took a bite. Wow... the noodles were seriously chewy haha.

Compared to regular udon, the noodles themselves were bouncier and insanely chewy — the bite was incredible. Being served cold seemed to make that chewiness even more noticeable, and the tsuyu wasn't too salty, so it was great to slurp up with the noodles.

It also comes with a piece of inari sushi (fried tofu pocket rice), and it was nicely plump 👍👍

Bukkake udon topped with grated radish and scallion

Topping the udon with grated radish, chopped scallion, and tempura crumbs made it even better. Especially in still-warm weather like now, bukkake udon goes down a lot easier than hot udon.

Eating the tempura pieces in between changed up the texture completely. The shrimp tempura was crispy and the pumpkin tempura sweet, great to snack on between bites of chewy noodles.

And since it was ordered as a set with tonkatsu included, the portion turned out surprisingly filling.

Tonkatsu that came with the udon set

Udon alone might have felt a bit light, but with a few pieces of tonkatsu on the side, it became a proper full meal.

King shrimp katsu set: why is it called 'king'?

Next, the king shrimp katsu, whose name alone made it intriguing. The look alone explains why 'king' is in the name haha — a shrimp tucked inside crispy batter, crunchy outside and plump inside on the first bite.

Completely different texture from tonkatsu, which made it a great call to order alongside the tempura bukkake udon.

Plate of the king shrimp katsu set

The king shrimp katsu was also ordered as a set, so udon came with it too. Fried food can get greasy after a while, but having warm udon in between made for a great combination.

Visiting as two, ordering one udon set and one katsu set and sharing back and forth felt like trying multiple dishes at once haha.

Side order: 2 pieces of sweet potato cheese croquette

On top of the two sets, 2 pieces of sweet potato cheese croquette were added as a side. Honestly the udon and katsu alone would've been enough, but seeing it on the menu was too tempting to resist...

Two pieces of sweet potato cheese croquette

Sweet potato and cheese inside crispy batter — exactly the flavor you'd expect, which makes it all the more delicious haha. The cheese amount was on the modest side, but the golden sweet potato was savory and tasty! Two pieces made it perfect for splitting one each.

With those chewy tempura bukkake udon noodles, it was personally the top pick of the day 💗 Slurping the chewy noodles in cold tsuyu, then a bite of crispy tempura, then a bite of tonkatsu — that rotation was so, so good. Highly recommend.

Ah! The restroom is outside but fairly clean 👍 For 35,000 won total, two people ate this much variety and left properly full. A place to come back to in Seongsu when craving something clean and Japanese rather than heavy, or when unwilling to give up either udon or tonkatsu!

Felt kind of heavy from being so full, but it's not greasy, so~~ Next time, planning to try the tori-ten bukkake udon (chicken tempura udon) too haha.

Final verdict on Kosi Seongsu Branch

  • Tempura bukkake udon noodles: bouncy, chewy, seriously delicious
  • Set menu = udon gets tonkatsu added / tonkatsu gets udon added
  • Sweet potato cheese croquette is a sweet, savory side
  • A great spot for lunch or solo dining in Seongsu/Ttukseom
