Driving to Yanggyegok: free 2-hour underground parking

I had errands in Seoul over the weekend and stopped by Yanggyegok near Yangjae Station with my husband for a late lunch of charcoal dakgalbi! It's super easy to find — just walk straight for about 2 minutes from Yangjae Station Exit 4, turn into the alley between Starbucks and Olive Young, and there it is!!

We drove and followed the navigation to get there. Most restaurants in Seoul don't have parking, so I was worried we'd have to find parking elsewhere, but Yanggyegok let us use the building's underground parking for free for 2 hours, which made driving there really convenient and nice.

📌 Today's post summary

  • Yanggyegok, with deep history spanning three generations since 1970
  • Retro pub-style interior & spacious underground parking lot
  • Fresh chicken slaughtered same-day! Honest review of salt, soy sauce, and gochujang dakgalbi
  • K-dessert-level cheese-pull flying fish roe cheese fried rice

Three generations of charcoal chicken since 1970, and the dining room

Yanggyegok turned out to have a long history — it started in 1970 at a traditional market in Pungyang, Yecheon, Gyeongbuk, where the grandmother ran a gukbap (rice and soup) shop with her honest cooking, and the recipe has passed down through the father to the third generation now!

In the food business, honesty is the golden rule.

Carrying on this principle, they only use fresh, domestic chicken slaughtered the same day, which instantly boosted my trust in the food before I even took a bite.

Old-school pub-style seating equipped with ventilation hoods

Walking inside, round tables stretch out across the space, giving off a warm, old-school pub vibe. Each table has a proper ventilation hood so it stays comfortable, and the place is spacious enough to fit anywhere from 6 to 70 people, which would be great for group gatherings or work dinners!

Table set with salt, soy sauce, and gochujang dakgalbi

Salt, soy sauce and gochujang dakgalbi: the three-flavor set

Since we wanted to try a variety of flavors, we ordered one serving each of salt, soy sauce, and gochujang dakgalbi!

Salt dakgalbi placed on the charcoal grill

The gentle charcoal fire came on and we started with the plain salt-grilled chicken, laying it on the grill to cook to a golden brown! The shishito peppers and mushrooms grilling alongside made for a perfect-looking spread haha

Maybe because it was chicken slaughtered that same day, the meat wasn't dry at all — it was tender and soft, and the juices burst in my mouth.

Salt dakgalbi wrapped in perilla leaf and pickled radish

I wrapped a piece of the well-cooked salt dakgalbi in fresh perilla leaf and pickled radish with a bit of mayo sauce and popping flying fish roe on top — and it was seriously an insane combination together with the subtle charcoal aroma. The plain savoriness of the salt grill, the salty umami of the soy sauce grill, and the spiciness of the gochujang grill each had such different charms that my husband and I kept marveling and inhaling it all.

As we were finishing up the meat, we added flying fish roe cheese fried rice (₩10,000) for the perfect ending to the meal! Savory fried rice sits on a sizzling hot plate, topped generously with popping flying fish roe, crunchy pickled radish, and plenty of savory mozzarella cheese.

Cheese stretching from a spoonful of fried rice

When I scooped up a big spoonful, the savory cheese stretched out in a long pull — just looking at it made my mouth water.

Is Yanggyegok worth it for charcoal dakgalbi with easy parking?

From the convenient free 2-hour underground parking to the high-quality charcoal dakgalbi passed down through three generations, to the lively old-school pub atmosphere — everything about Yanggyegok was satisfying! I highly recommend Yanggyegok to anyone near Yangjae Station looking for easy parking and genuinely delicious charcoal dakgalbi.
