1920s Gyeongseong costume rental with mom in Jeonju: Gwijok Uisangsil
In short
Gwijok Uisangsil Hanbok Jeonju Hanok Village Branch is a costume rental shop in Jeonju Hanok Village where visitors can rent hanbok or 1920s Gyeongseong-era costumes and get snap photos taken on the spot. The writer finally crossed her mom's bucket-list item off the list by renting a Gyeongseong costume for an indoor rental-plus-snap-photo session together, with retouching and printing taking about 30 to 40 minutes. If you don't plan on wearing the costume outside, the indoor package alone makes for a genuinely memorable experience.

Mom's bucket list: snap photos in a Gyeongseong costume
On this Jeonju trip, one thing I really wanted to do with my mom was take snap photos in Gyeongseong-era costumes!
When I first heard it was on my mom's bucket list, I honestly worried a bit about how it would go — but once we actually did it, I was so glad we did, haha!

Since we were in Jeonju Hanok Village, wearing hanbok (Korean traditional dress) felt like a must, but we hardly ever get the chance to wear hanbok normally — let alone a Gyeongseong-era outfit — so we decided to make it a special memory of this trip.

What the shop's location and atmosphere were like
We visited Gwijok Uisangsil Jeonju Hanok Village Branch, which sits right inside Jeonju Hanok Village, so it was easy to stop by mid-itinerary. Hanbok lined the entrance, and once you step further inside, there's a separate section for the Gyeongseong-era costumes.

What struck me most the moment we walked in was how spacious and pleasant the shop was — I loved that. With so many costume options, there were also multiple fitting rooms, so changing never felt crowded, and the air conditioning was blasting so cold that there was zero stickiness while changing in and out of clothes!

How to choose a Gyeongseong costume and the owner's recommendations
Since we'd decided on the Gyeongseong costumes, we headed further inside and looked through an album first. You could pick the outfit you wanted from the album and try it on, and if the first pick wasn't quite right, you could easily switch to another — no pressure at all.

I wanted something like a plain dress, so I picked one from the album and tried it on — but it looked different from what I'd imagined, and I panicked a bit, haha!
The owner immediately picked up on my taste and recommended a one-size piece that not many other guests had worn, saying she thought it would suit me well.

Before visiting, I'd looked through quite a lot of Gwijok Uisangsil reviews, and I'd never once seen the outfit I ended up picking — which made me like it even more. It was understated but had a nice standout detail, and I loved that combination.

My mom's first pick also turned out less flattering than she'd hoped, so she asked the owner for a recommendation too — and once she tried on the suggested piece, it suited her so much better that she picked it on the spot.

A pro tip for picking a dress: the props
Also, rather than just wearing the outfit alone, adding props like a necklace, hat, or belt completely changed the vibe. That means you don't even need to pick an overly flashy outfit — you can dial up the glamour just with accessories. We also borrowed shoes fitted to our foot size, and it came together perfectly!

Hanbok and Gyeongseong costume rental prices, plus snap photo add-on
If you're just taking photos inside the shop, costume rental is ₩15,000 per person, with a ₩10,000 snap photo add-on per person. If you want to wear it outside, a 2-hour rental is ₩20,000, a full-day rental is ₩25,000, and an overnight rental is ₩50,000.
We had no plans to wander around Jeonju Hanok Village in costume — our goal was simply to get photos with my mom — so we went with the costume rental plus snap photo package. While we were casually taking selfies, the snap photographer came over.

The snap photo shoot and taking a photo together
During the shoot, she guided us through poses and where to look, step by step, so it wasn't hard to follow at all. When I mentioned I wanted a photo with my mom too, she went ahead and shot a joint photo of us. We chatted comfortably throughout, and with such a nice atmosphere, both my mom and I had a genuinely fun time capturing these photos.

How long does retouching and printing take?
After the shoot, they let you pick photos, then retouch and print them, which I loved. We picked two photos of my mom and me together and each took one home. Retouching and printing took about 30 to 40 minutes — perfect timing if you go grab lunch in the meantime!

They mentioned that writing a Naver review gets you the retouched photo file sent via KakaoTalk, so I wrote a review and received the photo files too.

The most memorable experience of our Jeonju trip
We checked off my mom's bucket-list item of trying on a Gyeongseong costume, and we came home with photos of the two of us together — making this one of the most memorable experiences of our Jeonju trip. Just sightseeing around Jeonju Hanok Village is great on its own, but adding in an experience like this, something you wouldn't normally do, really makes the trip stick in your memory for longer.
