Jeonju chicken takeout for fried & spicy: Mannyeon Dakgangjeong

I came across Mannyeon Dakgangjeong Hanok Village Direct Store while wandering around Jeonju Hanok Village deciding what snack to get!! People eat lots of bibimbap and Choco Pies when they come to the village, but this time I was craving crispy dakgangjeong (sweet crispy Korean fried chicken), so I stopped in haha. I ordered it half-and-half and tried both the fried and spicy versions, and I was more satisfied than I expected...!!

It's right there after about a five-minute walk from Jeondong Cathedral toward Omokdae!! It's opposite Jungang Elementary School and Ojjang, so it's easy to find too haha.

I mean, I went after dinnertime and there were still seriously so many people...

Half-and-half orders and side dishes

There were more menu options than I expected!! The dakgangjeong came in mild, soy sauce, spicy, and fried flavors, and you could order half-and-half too. After debating, I got half fried dakgangjeong and half spicy dakgangjeong, and it was so nice to have both flavors at once haha. The portions are generous too, which I loved ㅠㅠㅠ

You can take draft beer to go too! Ahh, I really love draft beer, but I only noticed after I had already ordered everything ㅠ

They also had sides that go really well with dakgangjeong!! There were sweet potato cheese sticks, sotteok-sotteok (sausage and rice cake skewers), butter potatoes, and cheese balls packed full of filling, so they were perfect to add as a snack. Especially, you can get sotteok-sotteok by joining the review event, so give it a try!

Interestingly, they had written that it tastes even better after it cools down?!

There were lots of customers, but the turnover was quick, and it was even better because I could eat crispy dakgangjeong straight from the fryer!! Lots of people were waiting, but the line kept moving fast, so I got mine soon enough haha.

They gave me a moment to take photos, so I snapped these quickly... The color of that fresh dakgangjeong is insane, right... ㅠㅠㅠ The glossy spicy dakgangjeong and the crispy fried chicken fresh from the fryer both passed the visual test completely!! It looked crispy just from seeing it, and steam was rising from it, so I held back my urge to eat and took photos first... 🤤

The fried chicken was seriously insanely crispy... 🤤 It made a crunching sound the moment I bit into it, and while the coating was super crisp, the chicken inside was juicy, which made it even better!! It was a simple style that kept me reaching for more even without sauce, so it was totally my tasteㅠㅠㅠㅠ I was full, but I kept reaching for it lol.

The spicy flavor was just a little hotter than Shin Ramyun!! Or maybe exactly like Shin Ramyun..? It had that sweet-and-spicy style, with heat coming through the sweet sauce, so I kept eating it. I'm someone who finds Shin Ramyun a little spicy, but it was a level I could enjoy deliciously. On the other hand, my boyfriend, who is also bad with spicy food, said it was a little spicy while eating it hahaha. A slightly punchy heat! I think it would be perfect for anyone who likes subtly spicy dakgangjeong!!

Mannyeon Dakgangjeong follows a same-day production and same-day sales policy, so I trusted it even more!! They said they use only freshly prepared chicken every day and sell only dakgangjeong fried that day. The portion is seriously big, and I can see why it's popular... There is a reason so many people come to Jeonju Hanok Village wanting dakgangjeong!!! I think I'd order half-and-half again next time too 😋 You really don't get tired of it, and can keep eating it, which is why half-and-half is so good haha.
