Hanbok rental in Jeonju for royal-style family looks: Gwijok Uisangsil

In short

Gwijok Uisangsil Hanbok Jeonju Hanok Village Branch is a hanbok rental shop in central Jeonju Hanok Village, Jeonbuk. My siblings and I rented traditional hanbok, added hair accessories, and strolled the village in royal-style looks; the generous men’s sizing was a plus. Verdict: 2 hours for 20,000 won is a lovely way to make family-trip memories.

A hanbok rental shop in central Jeonju Hanok Village

I barely remember wearing hanbok (traditional Korean clothing) since elementary school, so I reserved Gwijok Uisangsil Hanbok Jeonju Hanok Village Branch in advance to make memories with my younger siblings on this family trip. It is right in the center of the Hanok Village, making it a great route: park, rent hanbok, then explore the village!

Exterior

Today I’m introducing Gwijok Uisangsil Hanbok Jeonju Hanok Village Branch, a hanbok rental shop tucked among the peaceful hanok buildings. It was September and the weather had finally eased up; it had been ages since I visited Jeonju Hanok Village, and I felt like I’d regret it if I didn’t wear hanbok, so here we are!

Just how varied are the hanbok styles?

Gwijok Uisangsil in Jeonju Hanok Village has so many kinds of hanbok, including traditional styles and Eoudong-style looks. There were so many choices that I agonized over what style, color, and design to wear about five hundred million times... Please decide on at least a color you want before visiting. Choice paralysis hits hard, sob.

Early modern Gyeongseong outfits are available too

Past the hanbok section and farther inside, you can also rent Gyeongseong outfits inspired by Korea’s early modern period. There is a really broad selection, and you can even take photos in the inner area after renting one, so make lovely memories with family, friends, or people close to you!

Hair styling to match your hanbok

Once you choose your hanbok and change, the owner considers both the outfit and your existing hairstyle, then decorates your hair with pretty clips! Just choose whether you want a half-up style or to leave it down, and the owner gets it done in a flash with those quick hands!

Store your belongings in a locker

When you put on hanbok, you only need to take off your top. Put all your remaining belongings into the bag the owner prepares, place it in the lockers outside the shop, and enjoy looking around Jeonju Hanok Village comfortably!

Lockers for hanbok rental customers

A quick shot at the photo zone right in front of the shop before exploring Hanok Village! The hanbok I wore in elementary school was an Eoudong style, with a slightly sheer jeogori (hanbok jacket) and lots of flair. This time, I wanted a royal look, and I loved it soooo much—my mood was the best ♥

Strolling Hanok Village like a queen

The clips in my hair were placed so stylishly and suited the look perfectly, and they chose a hanbok top that went beautifully with the skirt color I picked—maximum satisfaction! ★ I strolled elegantly and prettily through Jeonju Hanok Village as if I had stepped into the Joseon era all day long. The hanbok quality was great too, and ₩20,000 for a 2-hour rental is such a reasonable price!

A mischievous young-lady feel

With the pale yellow hanbok and the hair styling, I looked like a wild, unruly young lady from a noble household, haha. Even while sorting these photos to write this post, I’m slowly getting the urge to wear hanbok again, sob.

Generous sizing for men’s hanbok too

My younger brother is quiet by nature and even walks like a scholar, so the pretty pale yellow hanbok suited him perfectly. Considering his build, the sizing is generous enough that most men should be able to wear one without worrying.

I don’t remember this cutie sitting like this when I saw it a few months ago, but at some point it became famous on Instagram for this pose. I thought it was doing that because there was a footrest by its front legs, but it was actually sitting there with so much effort—the reality of a popular star... hahahahaha. I laughed once because I fell for its back view, then again because of its tiny, pitifully planted feet, hahaha. On my next trip to Jeonju, I’m planning to visit with my boyfriend, wear matching couple hanbok, and try a snap photo shoot too, haha.
