In short

Olheun Gogi Suwon Main Branch is a premium Korean BBQ restaurant (jeongyuk sikdang, butcher-shop grill) near Mangpo Station on Yeongtong-ro 218beon-gil in Suwon. Visiting with parents on a weekend lunch reservation, the writer booked ahead and ordered the Olheun Pork Set at 118,000 won, which brought pork belly, pork neck and pork loin cap plus Korean beef yukhoe (raw beef tartare), steamed egg and grillable cheese, all cooked at the table by staff. Olheun Gogi works just as well for a family meal as for a big group dinner.

My mom and dad came to visit Mangpo Station. While looking for a decent meat restaurant I could take my parents to, "Olheun Gogi Suwon Main Branch" looked promising, so I made a reservation and went!

Good for family meals, and since it's open late, also good as a group dinner spot — here's my record of visiting "Olheun Gogi Suwon Main Branch" during weekend lunch hours!

Besides soju and beer, they stock Hwayo, Ilpum Jinro, Ilpum Jinro Oak25, bokbunja (raspberry wine), and other drinks that pair well with meat — but what I liked most was the range of highballs: lin highball, Earl Grey highball, and grapefruit highball.

Inside Olheun Gogi: group rooms and high chairs

As soon as you step into the 1st floor of Olheun Gogi Suwon Main Branch, you're surprised by how spacious it is, with tables set up for large groups. When I asked the owner, they said full venue bookings can accommodate a minimum of 90 and up to 108 guests, so if you're looking for a group dinner spot, it's worth contacting the restaurant.

There are plenty of baby chairs too, so families with kids can visit with peace of mind!

Further inside, there's also a separate 12–14 person room and a 30 person room. You can enjoy group dinners, family gatherings, or club meetups privately — booking one of these rooms ahead for a holiday gathering would make for a much more relaxed meal. Reserving early is a good idea.

What comes in the 118,000 won Olheun Pork Set?

Sign explaining the Olheun Pork Set

What my parents and I ordered was the Olheun Pork Set, which comes with yukhoe (raw beef) included even though it's the pork set, plus an assortment of pork belly, pork neck, and pork loin cap, grillable cheese, and steamed egg — so I trusted the reputation and ordered it!

Side dishes pre-set at a reserved table

Maybe because we had a reservation, the side dishes were already neatly set up when we arrived

Salt, ssamjang, garlic, and wasabi accompaniments

Salt, ssamjang, garlic, and wasabi — all the classic pairings for meat — plus gat kimchi (mustard leaf kimchi), which my dad goes crazy for, along with myeongi namul (wild garlic leaves), baek kimchi (white kimchi), and jangajji (pickled vegetables), all neatly arranged. I was very satisfied. (My dad was very happy when he saw the kimchi selection)

Next came braised mackerel and geotjeori (fresh cabbage kimchi). This braised mackerel was seriously a hidden gem — the slightly spicy sauce soaked deep into the radish and mackerel, and I kept going back for more.

With mom and dad who came a long way, we toasted first with somaek (soju + beer) and zero-sugar cola.

Assorted pork belly, pork neck, and pork loin cap set

The pork set came out quickly! They said it's grade 1+ Korean pork, and the color really stood out. They generously loaded it up with pork belly, pork neck, and pork loin cap.

At Olheun Gogi, staff with anywhere from 6 months to 6 years of grilling experience cook the meat for you, so my parents and I could all relax and chat while eating comfortably.

The Korean beef yukhoe plate

The yukhoe came out right as the meat was being grilled, and honestly, how is the plating this pretty? Diced pear was laid on the bottom, with a generous pile of thick-cut yukhoe on top.

They placed an egg yolk in the middle, and when you mix it up with chopsticks,

you get the perfect Korean beef yukhoe plate for an appetizer! The beef was thick and fresh, so I could enjoy the chewy texture of the yukhoe throughout, and the seasoning maximized the raw beef's flavor, so we kept saying "so good, so good" and emptied the plate in no time.

Staff grilling the pork belly and pork neck

Meanwhile, the staff member provided an impressive grilling service, cutting the pork belly and pork neck — crisped up on the outside — into easy-to-eat pieces.

They then flipped the cut surfaces and crisped those up too, adding sweet pumpkin, onion, and mushrooms at just the right timing in between.

Isn't the meat grilled so beautifully? I couldn't resist and quickly snapped a few photos.

I placed the well-grilled pork belly on top of baek kimchi and carefully added ssamjang sauce before popping it in my mouth. So good~

They also brought out a steamed egg that looked like it was about to burst. Steaming hot, the three of us dug into it with spoons. So delicious.

Grillable cheese on the grill

Grillable cheese and pork loin cap

By the time we finished off the pork belly and neck, they put the grillable cheese on the grill, and once you flip it a few times until it's golden brown and pop it into your mouth with the meat — heaven.

The combination of grillable cheese and pork was surprisingly great, so I quickly grilled up the rest of the cheese too.

With the grill wiped clean, the hardworking staff member then grilled up the pork loin cap.

The pork loin cap was a bit chewier and juicier than the pork belly and neck — personally, I liked this cut even more, so even though I was already full from the belly and neck, I kept eating without stopping.

Plum-flavored candy at the counter

Small touches: candy and phone chargers

Before paying, I noticed plum-flavored candy at the counter, and it made me feel like the owner really pays attention to detail. We got to enjoy some tangy candy for dessert too.

Phone charger at the restaurant counter

There's also a phone charger inside, so if your battery's dying, you can leave your phone at the counter to charge.
