I've been craving really good meat lately, so I went to check out a Korean BBQ spot in Mangpo! I left so satisfied that I have to share it, haha.
Inside Olheun Gogi Suwon Main Branch and its group room

First off, the place is pretty spacious with tons of seating, so the moment I walked in I thought it would be totally fine to come with a group. If you're looking for somewhere for a group dinner near Mangpo Station, I'd recommend this.

There's even a separate group room set up, so it seems great not just for work dinners but also for family gatherings or any meal with several people.
Olheun Gogi menu lineup and the review-event draft beer

Olheun Gogi serves both beef and pork! There's a wide variety of set options, and the sides were super varied too — naengmyeon (cold noodles), jjigae (stew), nurungji (scorched rice soup), seafood ramyeon, and more.

They're also running a review event — I've seen plenty of places give out soju or beer, but here they give you draft beer!! That's genuinely awesome 🥰
What comes with the Olheun Pork Set
I wanted to try a bit of everything that day, so I ordered the Olheun Pork Set. It comes with samgyeopsal (pork belly), pork neck, and deodsal ribeye cap together, plus steamed egg, grillable cheese, and yukhoe (raw beef tartare) — turned out to be a pretty full spread!

Banchan, geotjeori (fresh kimchi) and wrap greens
At a BBQ restaurant, I think the side dishes matter just as much as the meat. This place passes with flying colors!! Everything came out neatly arranged, and I especially loved the myeong-i (mountain garlic leaves) — eaten with the meat, that fragrant flavor really came through.

And the geotjeori (fresh cabbage kimchi) was surprisingly delicious. Crunchy texture, nutty, and just spicy enough — good enough to eat on its own as a side dish. I even wanted to learn the recipe, haha.

They'll also bring out lettuce wraps if you ask! I love wrapping my meat, so if you're the same, just ask and they'll bring it out.

Steamed egg, yukhoe and grillable cheese
The steamed egg included in the set is huge! It was hot and soft, perfect for spooning up a bite between rounds of meat — such a fluffy, delicious steamed egg!!

When they first set out the meat, the portion was more generous than I expected! If you order the set, it seems like it'd be plenty for 3-4 people!!

The yukhoe looked amazing too!!! Somehow the plating felt pretty as well, haha. They served the egg yolk separately alongside the meat, and just looking at it, both looked super fresh.

The cheese came sliced thick and in a generous portion. You could tell at a glance it was thick enough to be really good once grilled.

Staff grill every cut from start to finish
First up, the samgyeopsal! You can see how thick it is!! It wasn't overly fatty — a nice balance with the lean meat 💓
At Olheun Gogi, the staff grill everything for you! Grilling meat is honestly no easy task, so if you're looking for a place where they grill it for you, I'd recommend this one. They kept an eye on it and grilled it all the way through, so it was so easy to just eat. And they grill it perfectly, too 🤭

As the meat cooked, the visuals got completely insane, right?!!? That golden-brown color alone made it impossible not to take photos 🤗 The outside crisping up, with juices glistening between bites of meat — it looked delicious just to look at...♥

Once it's done, they move it aside like this so it doesn't burn! They really do see the grilling through to the end!!🤍 I also tried the pork neck — it kept that firm, chewy texture unique to it while staying moist inside, a different charm from meat that's just plain soft.
How to eat it: mel-jeot, wasabi and garlic scapes
I dipped the golden-brown samgyeopsal into mel-jeot (fermented anchovy sauce), and yeah, that combo is famous for a reason!!! The savory fat from the pork belly paired so well with the salty flavor of the mel-jeot 🤤🤤 And the mel-jeot wasn't just strongly salty — it had a subtle depth of flavor that made it even tastier, ugh.

I also like eating meat with wasabi, and they had exactly that here!! It goes especially well with fattier cuts like samgyeopsal 👍🏻

And the thing I kept reaching for surprisingly often was the garlic scapes!! I normally really dislike pickled garlic scapes, but grilled raw like this, that sharp bite disappears and leaves a slightly fragrant aroma with a crunchy texture that went great with the meat. It felt kind of refreshing, somehow?!
The yukhoe had a wonderfully bouncy yet tender chew!! The seasoning didn't overpower the beef's own flavor — you could still taste the meat's clean richness, and a subtle nuttiness came through the more you chewed. If I go back, I think I'd order the yukhoe on its own too.

The best cut of the night: deodsal ribeye cap
And the cut I enjoyed the most that day was the deodsal ribeye cap. Chewy yet springy with each bite, it was seriously delicious 🤤 While samgyeopsal and pork neck are flavors you can more or less predict, the deodsal stuck with me more because of its texture. Next time I visit, I think I'll order this one first.
Partway through the meal, they placed cheese on one side of the grill and lightly grilled it. As the cheese warmed up, it turned slightly golden and chewy — a totally different experience from eating it plain!!

Wrapping it with the meat like this made the flavor so much richer, haha.

Finishing the meal with nurungji
Lastly, I ordered nurungji (scorched rice soup) too — it came out piping hot and instantly settled my stomach ☺️ After all that samgyeopsal and mel-jeot, your mouth is left with a strong flavor, but one spoonful of warm nurungji cleanses it into something nutty and clean — highly recommend it as the last course!!!!!
Overall, every single dish — from the meat to the yukhoe to the grillable cheese — was satisfying, and the staff grilled the meat so well that eating was completely stress-free.
Between the flavor of the meat, the portions, and the side dishes, this place had it all covered — if you're looking for a great Korean BBQ spot, I'd recommend stopping by at least once!
