Beomeo-dong Daegu Korean restaurant: black rice ssam wraps, Banwoldang
In short
Banwoldang Buja Sikdang Suseong Branch is a fire-grilled Korean restaurant on Beomeocheon-ro in Suseong-gu, Daegu, where the signature dishes are oje-bokkeum (squid and pork stir-fry) and seokgalbi (stone-grilled ribs). The visit centered on the oje-bokkeum, piled with black rice onto lettuce from the self-serve ssam vegetable bar and rounded out with the complimentary country-style cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew). Between the smoky char and the savory sauce, Banwoldang Buja Sikdang cleared a whole bowl of rice.

Hi everyone! It's Boduri. Today I'm introducing a restaurant famous for one of the three great soul foods for men — jeyuk bokkeum (spicy stir-fried pork)!! The smoky char on the pork here is seriously incredible.. and the savory sauce and the meat itself are so good..? No more words needed. Let's get right into it :)

(The clean sign catches your eye right away from the outside) Since it's located in Suseong-gu, this is a place I really want to recommend to anyone looking for Daegu Korean food or Suseong-gu Korean food ㅜㅡㅜ

I heard Buja Sikdang only directly operates two branches — this Banwoldang Suseong location and one other!

Inside Banwoldang Buja Sikdang: tablet ordering and the dining room
Walking inside, the soft lighting and wood-tone interior blend together for an instantly comfortable feel! And since it's an open kitchen, I got the impression everything was being kept clean throughout, and every table has a tablet ordering device set up so you can order easily!!

The menu: how to order oje-bokkeum (squid and pork stir-fry)
The signature dishes at Banwoldang Buja Sikdang Suseong Branch center around fire-grilled dishes like ojegokkeum (squid and pork stir-fry), seokgalbi, squid stir-fry, and jeyuk bokkeum. Ordering a main comes with a savory rustic cheonggukjang stew on the side, which is so nice ㅜㅡㅜ
For the fire-grilled stir-fries, you can choose mild or spicy, and orders are only available for 2 people or more. Steamed rice is separate, so you can order black rice or bibimbap according to your taste!!! After some deliberation, I ordered the squid-pork stir-fry!

There's also a self-serve ssam (wrap) vegetable bar! Help yourself to whatever suits your taste :)

What comes with the oje-bokkeum spread
The squid-pork stir-fry I ordered arrived!! The spicy-sweet sauce coating the reddish stir-fried squid and pork, topped with enoki mushrooms and sesame seeds sprinkled on top, was visually appetizing from the start..
The side dishes that came with it — salad, seasoned bean sprouts, mu-saengchae (spicy radish salad), and stir-fried seaweed stem — were all served cleanly, completing a neat, well-composed spread!!

(The stew that came as a basic complimentary side!) The cheonggukjang, brought out right on a table burner, was loaded with tofu and enoki mushrooms for an outstanding savory flavor!! Not overly strong, and the rich broth paired perfectly with the main dish,,

Black rice and lettuce wraps from the ssam vegetable bar
Since a rice thief had arrived.. I ordered rice right away..

Putting a piece of well-seasoned pork onto fluffy black rice, the smoky char and sauce flavor wrapped around each bite perfectly. The squid was also big and springy with a great chewy texture — a perfect match for rice!

Laying black rice on lettuce from the self-serve bar, then topping it with pork and squid to make a wrap, was such a great combination.. The fresh lettuce cleanly balanced out the spicy fire-grilled sauce, so it never got tiring and I kept going..

(And just like that, it was gone..) In the end I cleaned out a whole bowl of rice — the smoky char and savory depth unique to fire-grilled sauce made for a truly satisfying meal!

Is Banwoldang Buja Sikdang Suseong Branch worth a visit?
From the main ojegokkeum to the savory cheonggukjang, the ssam vegetables, and the side dishes, the whole spread wasn't excessive and was neatly composed, so I enjoyed the meal the entire time ㅜㅡㅜ The interior was also kept pleasantly clean, and thanks to the friendly staff, I finished my meal in a comfortable atmosphere!
Banwoldang Buja Sikdang Suseong Branch is a place I'd want to return to anytime I want a hearty, thoughtfully made Korean meal without any fuss — it's genuinely delicious, so if you get the chance, I highly recommend paying a visit :)
