Daegu Korean restaurant by Eorininsesang Station: seokgalbi for three

In short

Banwoldang Buja Sikdang Suseong Branch is a 36-year-old fire-grilled Korean restaurant on the covered stream road (Beomeocheon-ro) in Suseong-gu, Daegu, about 412m from Eorininsesang Station. Three people ordered the stone-plate buja seokgalbi (grilled short ribs) and could not finish it, and the meal came with an all-you-can-eat ssam vegetable bar and a free cheonggukjang (rich fermented soybean) stew. Tender ribs, crispy burdock fritters and generous portions made Banwoldang Buja Sikdang a proper home-style feast.

Visited Banwoldang Buja Sikdang, famous for its fire-grilled cooking~~!!

With 36 years of tradition and a mother's devoted hand behind every dish, this place captures all the fire-grilled flavor and huge portions of the original Banwoldang location in a warm, home-cooked meal.

This spot was also great for a workday lunch since the wait was short — very efficient during the busy lunch hour. Banwoldang Buja Sikdang Suseong Branch was also perfect as a spot for the whole family to eat out.

For years, a mother stood in front of the hot fire, feeding countless people with her cooking and her stubborn devotion to the food — and now her son is carefully carrying on her hand-me-down flavors.

With fresh ingredients and secret seasonings packed generously onto the table for more than the price would suggest, this is a Korean restaurant in Suseong-gu where you can enjoy a proper, hearty meal with people you care about — Banwoldang Buja Sikdang Suseong Branch.

The menu and the all-you-can-eat ssam vegetable bar

True to a good restaurant, the menu is compact. All menu items require an order of 2 or more, and a cheonggukjang (fermented soybean) stew is provided free with any order (healthy black rice sold separately).

Ooh. The buja bibimbap and the spicy cream pork both look totally delicious too.

Wow. Look at this pile of ssam vegetables!! Being able to eat fresh vegetables to your heart's content is amazing. Pairing them with the natural flavor of the meat makes for an even healthier way to enjoy it!

neat little side dishes. These side dishes were amazing! Especially the burdock fritters — a total hit. Not the usual flavor I've had before. So nutty~

Apparently these burdock fritters are made by frying fresh burdock root in clean soybean oil every morning until crispy, then tossing it in a sweet special sauce. Maybe that's why my chopsticks kept going back for more — it was an addictive nutty-sweet specialty!

Wow, our stone-grilled buja seokgalbi finally arrived!! That sizzling sound as it cooks on the hot stone plate~~ Amazing.

Stone-grilled buja seokgalbi piled up like a mountain

Whoa, the stone-grilled buja seokgalbi piled up like a mountain! So appetizing. Absolutely huge ribs, and so many of them! The portion was massive. Such generous hospitality!

Shredded green onions topped on the seokgalbi

Especially these shredded green onions on top made the ribs look even more delicious together.

Tender seokgalbi cut into bite-sized pieces

Cutting the meat into bite-sized pieces and popping one into my mouth... the ribs were so tender they melted right in my mouth. A total rice thief! Pairing it with the savory homemade cheonggukjang stew — this really was true, healthy, delicious home cooking?!

A generous table of seokgalbi still left over even after three people ate

How big is the portion? Too much for three people to finish

Even with three of us eating, the portion was so huge we couldn't finish it. But it was so good we kept eating anyway haha. A totally satisfying, filling, delicious meal that day!

Besides the stone-grilled buja seokgalbi, other fire-grilled dishes full of that smoky flavor include the stone-grilled fire pork with rich seasoning that blends with the smokiness of the fire, and the fire-grilled squid stir-fry, made with carefully prepped squid coated in a special sauce and stir-fried over high heat. If you want to enjoy that sweet-and-spicy seasoning with plenty of smoky flavor and chewy texture, these are the dishes to try!

Banwoldang Buja Sikdang Suseong Branch, filled with all kinds of customers from office workers to groups. Massive portions full of a mother's hand-me-down flavor, and generous hospitality — I fully approve of this restaurant!
