In short

Una Magok is a Japanese restaurant in Gangseo, Seoul, specializing in hitsumabushi (grilled eel over rice) and torimabushi (grilled chicken over rice), on the first floor of K-Square Magok Tower 2 by Magongnaru Station. The writer ordered the small hitsumabushi at 32,000 won, torimabushi at 29,000 won and a 100-year vitality fresh ginseng wine at 6,000 won, then compared the eel tea broth ochazuke with the chicken broth version. First, the ginseng wine!! I was surprised to find a whole sprout ginseng root inside — it really does feel like it gives you energy

Small hitsumabushi: three ways to eat the eel rice

Hitsumabushi small is ₩32,000 and comes in a two-tier lunchbox with yellow egg strips. Una Magok's recommended order is: taste it plain first → with scallions, perilla leaves, seaweed flakes, and wasabi → finish with ochazuke.

The way to eat it best: first plain! Then with scallions, perilla leaves, seaweed flakes, and wasabi, and finish it off with ochazuke~~

The hidden secret of the two-tier lunchbox!!! The bottom tier has 4 delicious side dishes — potato salad, cucumber, mushrooms, and braised konjac (all refillable)

A thick piece of grilled eel

Here comes the thick, well-grilled eel

Una Magok's secret tare sauce isn't too salty, and it's rich with a rising umami flavor — I liked that you could still taste the eel's natural flavor

Eel ochazuke with tea broth poured over it

Finishing it off with ochazuke really is the best way to eat it~~~~~ the clean tea broth makes for a refreshing finish

Torimabushi and the chicken broth ochazuke

Torimabushi is ₩29,000, a charcoal-grilled chicken rice bowl full of smoky charcoal aroma. The side dishes are the same as hitsumabushi, but with one extra furikake added.

This is the furikake~ they said to add it to the ochazuke, which made me curious

Torimabushi table setting served with furikake

The charcoal aroma comes through nicely and the seasoning is well absorbed, making it a mild chicken dish anyone can enjoy without hesitation — putting it over rice with wasabi made for a clean, refreshing bite

And then the ochazuke! You can enjoy ochazuke with torimabushi too. Unlike the hitsumabushi ochazuke, torimabushi ochazuke uses chicken broth, so it's a milky, cloudy-white broth

Torimabushi ochazuke made with milky chicken broth

The broth itself is clean and delicious, but sprinkling in the furikake really brings the flavor to life~ ah~ that's why the furikake is included (the owner said it's so good they even eat it as a casual late-night snack at home hahaha)

Dessert: green tea ice cream

Green tea ice cream served for dessert

Did you enjoy the meal~ If you call staff via the tablet to order dessert, you get a sweet, slightly bitter green tea ice cream. A refreshing reset

A hitsumabushi and torimabushi spot near Magok Station, enjoyed in a clean, pleasant space, with a private room to make your stay feel personal. There's also an event offering free champagne for parties of 4 or more, making it a great Magok private-room restaurant for group gatherings. It's a friendly place, so it would also be a nice date spot near Seoul Botanic Park.
