Suji noodle restaurant with extra-thick chewy jjolmyeon: Chilseong

A recommendation for a restaurant in Seongbok-dong, Suji — Chilseong Jemyeonso Suji Main Branch.

If you love noodle dishes, there's a place whose name alone makes you curious — Chilseong Jemyeonso Suji Main Branch. Just from the name I thought, "I have to try the noodles properly here," so this time I picked the jjolmyeon (chewy cold noodles) menu.

But once I actually tried it, the texture was a bit different from the thin jjolmyeon I'm usually used to, and the combination with the pork cutlet and sides I ordered together turned out better than expected!? I'll walk you through what the jjolmyeon noodles felt like and how it went eating it alongside the pork cutlet below :)

Where is Chilseong Jemyeonso Suji Main Branch, and when is it open?

Chilseong Jemyeonso Suji Main Branch is on the 1st floor of Seohee Star Hills at 80 Seongbok 1-ro, Suji-gu, Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do. It's open daily from 11:00 to 21:00, last order at 20:30, and free parking is available.

There's no break time and every item on the menu can be taken out. From Seongbok Station it's about 955m from Exit 4, and listed as under 5 minutes by car.

You can use the Seohee Star Hills underground parking lot, and parking in front of the store is also available.

The menu at Chilseong Jemyeonso, from noodles to pork cutlets

True to its name, Chilseong Jemyeonso serves a wide range of noodle dishes — jjolmyeon, udon, buckwheat noodles, guksu, and more.

There's quite a variety of noodle dishes like charcoal bibim jjolmyeon, charcoal white jjolmyeon, Chilseong mazesoba udon, charcoal beef belly udon, and Chilseong warm buckwheat noodles, plus bibimbap, pork cutlet, and dumplings, so there's plenty to choose from depending on your taste.

Since the restaurant is named after noodles, I wanted to make sure I tried a noodle dish, so I ordered the real cheese pork cutlet bibim jjolmyeon, and paired it with the domestic whole sirloin pork cutlet, tteokkkochi, and fried shrimp.

Real cheese pork cutlet bibim jjolmyeon, 14,500 won: how thick are the noodles?

The dish I was most curious about at Chilseong Jemyeonso Suji Main Branch was the real cheese pork cutlet bibim jjolmyeon, ₩14,500.

When I first saw the noodles, they looked a bit different from the thin jjolmyeon I usually eat at snack shops. The noodles were slightly thicker, which gave a clearly chewier bite. Personally, with jjolmyeon the sauce matters, but if the noodles go soft or lack texture it's disappointing — here the noodles themselves were chewy, which made eating it fun.

The sauce wasn't too bold — it had a mild, easy-to-enjoy flavor.

The jjolmyeon also comes with a piece of cheese pork cutlet. Eating the spicy bibim jjolmyeon alongside the cheese pork cutlet worked really well together :)

100% Korean whole sirloin pork cutlet, 13,500 won

The other dish I ordered was the 100% domestic whole sirloin pork cutlet, ₩13,500. Personally, if a pork cutlet's batter has too much oil left in it, I get tired of it after just a few bites.

When I ate it, it didn't feel greasy at all — it was exactly the familiar, old-school pork cutlet style, so it was easy to enjoy without any letdowns.

If jjolmyeon alone feels a bit light and you want a heartier meal, ordering the pork cutlet to share alongside it seems like a good idea.

Nostalgic tteokkkochi, 2 skewers for 3,000 won

For a side, I also ordered the tteokkkochi (grilled rice cake skewers), 2 pieces for ₩3,000.

True to its name, it brought back memories of the tteokkkochi sold in front of schools haha. The rice cake was nice and chewy, making it easy to snack on between bites of the main dishes. And at ₩3,000, it's a no-brainer to add when you want one more side.

Fried shrimp on the side

We also ordered fried shrimp.

Sticking to noodles or pork cutlet alone is fine, but having crispy fried items to mix in made the spread feel more varied. It's a plus that Chilseong Jemyeonso offers not just noodle dishes but also pork cutlet, dumplings, and fried items to round out the meal.

Is Chilseong Jemyeonso Suji Main Branch worth a visit?

What stuck with me most from this visit to Chilseong Jemyeonso Suji Main Branch, a restaurant in Suji, was definitely the real cheese pork cutlet bibim jjolmyeon. The noodles were a bit thicker than the jjolmyeon I usually eat, so the chewy texture came through more clearly, and with the cheese pork cutlet included, I got to enjoy several flavors within a single dish :) The whole sirloin pork cutlet was also easy to eat without any greasy feeling, and having sides like tteokkkochi and fried shrimp to choose from made it good for sharing several dishes.

If you're looking for a restaurant in Suji or near Seongbok Station for an easygoing meal like jjolmyeon or pork cutlet, give Chilseong Jemyeonso Suji Main Branch a try :) Next time I'd love to try the charcoal bibim jjolmyeon or mazesoba udon — the names alone have me curious haha.
