It had been a while since we went out for a slightly special family dinner, so we headed toward Yangji in Yongin. We wanted somewhere a bit different from our usual spots — good meat and a nice drive combined. Cruising along the quiet Hanteo-ro, a stylish building tucked into the woods suddenly came into view. That was Rustic Smoke House Yongin Yangji Branch.

Where is Rustic Smoke House Yongin Yangji Branch, and when is it open?

Rustic Smoke House Yongin Yangji Branch is on the 1st floor of 432-3 Hanteo-ro, Yangji-eup, Cheoin-gu, Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do. It's open Tuesday through Sunday from 10:30 to 21:00, with a break time from 15:00 to 17:00, and closed every Monday. The parking lot is spacious, so it was easy to get to by car.

It's about a 1-minute walk from Rothem Park and close to Hanteo Camping Ground too, so it's a great stop on a drive or on the way to camping nearby. Group dining, takeout, and reservations are all available, so booking ahead is a good idea for family gatherings or larger groups.

A Texas-style exterior in Yangji-eup

You'll especially love the entrance if you go in the evening. Walking up, the atmospheric restaurant and the wide, relaxed parking lot catch your eye right away.

We arrived around sunset, and the lights strung through the trees mixed with red neon signage made for a really great mood.

It genuinely felt like stepping into a small steakhouse somewhere in Texas. With the wood-toned exterior and outdoor tables, I found myself taking photos before we'd even gone inside.

At the entrance there's a big cute bear plush and a mirror photo zone too. It'd be fun to snap some pictures here whether you're with your kid or your partner.

Inside Rustic Smoke House: the self-serve bar and going with kids

Once we stepped through the door, the inside felt even more spacious than the exterior suggested. Thanks to the high ceilings, the space felt open rather than cramped.

Wood-toned interiors, vintage props, bare bulbs, and chandeliers — there was plenty to look at as we explored.

What especially caught my eye was the cute little self-serve bar in the middle of the restaurant. Ice water, cutlery, forks and spoons were all neatly set out, and there was even separate baby dishware. It felt like a thoughtful touch for families visiting with young kids.

There were three of us that day, including our child, so we ordered the family set for 4. You can choose the main between a barbecue platter or a steak platter, and it comes with 2 pasta or rice dishes, a quesadilla, house salad, and 4 drinks.

Drinks can be cola, Sprite, orange juice, or Americano, with the option to upgrade to ade or alcohol for an extra charge. I went with zero-sugar cola, my kid switched to lemon ade, and Mr. Cho upgraded to beer.

The steak platter: chuck flap tail, flat iron and pork neck steak

A little while later, the table filled up with food, and the visual alone was impressive!

The star of the show, the steak platter we ordered! Chuck flap tail steak, skirt steak, and pork neck steak came piled together with shrimp and grilled vegetables.

The chuck flap tail and skirt steaks are apparently aged in a special sauce before grilling. One bite and the juices were still wonderfully alive, and the meat wasn't tough at all. It was tender and moist enough that even my kid ate it happily.

Surprisingly, what suited my taste best was the pork neck steak. Without any of the usual gaminess or dryness of pork, it had a soft, tender texture — a different kind of charm from the steaks. Paired with the plump grilled shrimp and grilled vegetables, the plate felt really substantial.

Jambalaya, truffle cream risotto and Toowoomba pasta

For the two main dishes included in the family set, we added one more and tried a variety. We ordered jambalaya, truffle cream risotto, and Toowoomba pasta.

First, the jambalaya (a Louisiana-style rice dish with seafood and meat) had the flavors of seafood and meat blended nicely into the rice. It was slightly spicy with a hint of sweetness, which cut through the richness nicely when eaten alongside the meat.

As soon as the truffle cream risotto arrived, a subtle truffle aroma wafted up. Combined with a thick, savory cream sauce, it was smooth and easy to eat.

The Toowoomba pasta was creamy with a bit of a kick. The rich cream sauce with added spice kept me reaching back for more.

Each of the three dishes had a distinct flavor, so I was glad we ordered them all together.

BBQ quesadilla with house-made salsa

The BBQ quesadilla included in the family set was also a real treat.

Inside the crispy-grilled tortilla was a generous filling of vegetables, barbecue meat, and cheese.

Make sure to try the house-made salsa that comes with it! The refreshing, slightly spicy kick made it even tastier. Best of all, my kid ate it up happily too. It's a dish that works for meat-loving adults and kids alike.

Easy-to-miss tip: house-made coleslaw is free

If you don't look closely at the kiosk, you'd miss it — the coleslaw is free! There's pickles and jalapeños too, but definitely try this delicious house-made coleslaw!

Verdict: is Rustic Smoke House worth it for a family meal in Yongin Yangji?

The food at Rustic Smoke House was genuinely delicious, but the atmosphere stuck with me just as much.

Wood-toned interior with high ceilings

A location that feels tucked into the woods, a Texas-style exterior, an atmospheric interior with high ceilings, and generous portions on top of it all. Most of all, the spacious parking made things easy, and it felt stress-free to visit with a kid. Another plus: ordering just one family set lets you taste a wide variety of dishes.

If you're looking for a nice-atmosphere family dinner spot or date spot around Yongin Yangji, this place is worth a visit.

It's especially worth remembering if you're searching for a Yongin steak restaurant or a Yongin barbecue restaurant. Our family left that day pretty satisfied, and next time I'm planning to try the barbecue platter :) Delicious food plus an exotic atmosphere — this outing was a real success. 🤎
