But lately there's been a Korean buffet in Yongin that everyone's been talking about. 'It tastes like home cooking~' 'There are so many side dishes~' I'd only heard the rumors, so I stopped by after work on my way home.

9,000 won paid up front, and a line at Daedong even past lunchtime

Whoa! Even though it was a bit past lunchtime, there was still a line, and the restaurant was packed with people eating. So the rumors were true after all — and the price is really ₩9,000?? These days that price is hard to believe. I paid upfront, grabbed a tray, and off I went~! The moment I saw the side dishes, I let out about ten 'wow's in a row 😁

Unlimited ramen at the self-cook corner, plus parking and dining room size

On one side there's a self-cook corner that offers unlimited ramen (Korean instant noodles), and it was really great. Zero pressure. Being able to have rice as the main course and ramen as a side is a huge draw.

Daedong Korean Buffet & Dosirak has a wide parking lot out in Yangji-myeon, Yongin, so it was easy to visit by car, and even with the crowd, the restaurant itself is fairly spacious, so you can eat at ease. The biggest strength of Daedong Korean Buffet is really how much food you get for the price. I thought that if I get the chance, I should order the dosirak (packed lunch boxes) sometime for an event.

Based on the current menu, the adult Korean buffet starts from ₩9,000, and there's also a separate kids menu, so it's an easy spot to visit as a family too. Once you step into the buffet, all kinds of side dishes are laid out — rice and soup plus a variety of banchan (side dishes), all served in a pick-as-much-as-you-want style, which naturally got me a little greedy from the start.

One plate at Daedong: spicy stir-fried pork, namul and kimchi

Isn't this exactly the charm of a Korean buffet? There's meat dishes like pork bulgogi (stir-fried spicy pork), plus namul (seasoned vegetables), kimchi, and stir-fried items — all sorts of dishes that go well with rice, so even a little of each on one plate ends up feeling pretty hearty. Especially when you go with a group, everyone might like different side dishes, and since it's a buffet, being able to pick whatever you each want was a real plus.

Thinking about how much eating out costs these days, being able to have rice, soup, and a variety of side dishes together for ₩9,000 definitely felt like great value. Maybe that's why I saw people eating alone as well as families and groups dining together.

Daedong Korean Buffet opens early in the morning, so it's a perfect place to eat and start your day. It's open from 6am to 3pm, so you can have a solid breakfast early in the day. And true to the 'dosirak' in its name, they also run dosirak and group catering services. It seems like a place office workers could use for lunch, or for group meals when needed.

I think the fun of a Korean buffet is looking forward to what side dishes will come out each day. There are days when, instead of something fancy or elaborate, you just want a hearty meal of rice and banchan that doesn't feel like too much even if you eat it every day. This kind of place is perfect for that.
