Namyangju restaurant for cuttlefish ink risotto: Romaok Riverside

The weather was so nice that I met up with a friend for a drive and ended up out in Namyangju, where we stopped by Romaok Riverside. It's a hanok (traditional Korean house) restaurant right on the Han River, and I'd been curious about it ever since seeing photos. Once I got there in person, I could see it's a great stop on a Namyangju drive since you can look out at the river while you eat.

But it's not just a place you visit for the view — the food was also totally my taste. It's a Blue Ribbon–listed restaurant, so I had some expectations going in, and honestly, from the bread to the pasta to the risotto, everything was delicious :)

Where is Romaok Riverside, and where do you park?

Romaok Riverside sits right on the Han River in Suseok-dong, Namyangju.

There's no dedicated restaurant parking lot, but the Han River Citizen Park Suseok district parking lot is right in front. The first hour is free, then it's ₩200 per 10 minutes, up to ₩7,000 a day.

The restaurant doesn't cover parking, but the rate itself is low enough that it wasn't a burden even after eating and taking a walk around the area afterward. If you're looking for a place to eat near Mieumnaru, this one's convenient enough to be worth searching for alongside Mieumnaru restaurants.

A hanok restaurant in Suseok-dong with a Han River view

The building itself is a hanok, so the atmosphere was great from the moment we walked in. The roof tiles and wood give it character, but the interior is cleanly arranged, so it doesn't feel as heavy as a traditional hanok restaurant.

The day I went, the sun was out and the sky was clear, so the Han River view through the windows was really pretty. I found myself glancing out the window between bites, and there were plenty of photo spots too. I could see why it's popular for Namyangju dates. It's not overly formal, but it has enough atmosphere to work for anniversaries or a meal with parents.

Even on a weekday lunch, the place was packed.

What's on the menu at Romaok Riverside

Romaok's menu ranges from set courses to à la carte dishes.

I was surprised to see a kids' mushroom cream risotto listed separately on the menu — if you reserve via Naver, there's also a coupon for a free one, so keep that in mind!

The scallion bread served before the meal

I have to talk about the bread here first, haha. It came out warm, and it was like a scallion bread or a leek focaccia. The bread itself was soft with a slightly toasted exterior, and the scallion aroma kept drifting up, so I kept reaching for more before the mains even arrived.

Usually pre-meal bread is a bite or two and done, but here I genuinely thought I'd buy it separately if they sold it. Honestly, once I got home, this bread was the first thing I thought of, haha.

Fresh truffle Korean beef white ragu pasta

The first dish we ordered was the raw truffle Korean beef white ragu pasta. Since it's a white ragu rather than a tomato-based one, it leaned savory and smooth overall. With the Korean beef ragu mixed in, it wasn't as light as a typical cream pasta — the meat added real heft.

They topped it with real truffle, and the raw truffle aroma paired well with the sauce. The truffle scent hit first, and then as I kept eating, the savory sauce and beef flavor came through more. I'm a fan of truffle dishes, so this pasta was my favorite of everything we ordered that day. I'd order it again next time :)

Cuttlefish ink risotto at Romaok Riverside

The second dish was the cuttlefish ink risotto. I was a little worried an ink dish might be overly strong or salty, but it turned out less intense than expected. There's a savory depth from the ink and a nice chew from the cuttlefish, so it paired well with the white ragu pasta.

The pasta was savory and smooth, while the risotto had a seafood flavor, so the two dishes didn't overlap — alternating bites between them worked really well together. If two people are visiting, ordering one pasta and one risotto to share is a solid combo.

Does this Blue Ribbon pick in Namyangju live up to it?

These days there are plenty of restaurants with great views or nice spaces where the food ends up being an afterthought, but at Romaok, everything from the bread to the mains was consistently delicious and satisfying. I found this place while searching for Blue Ribbon restaurants in Namyangju, and after eating there, I realized it's not famous just for the scenery.

Of everything I had, the raw truffle Korean beef white ragu pasta was most to my taste, and surprisingly, the bread stuck with me too.

Why Romaok Riverside works with a young child

Just looking at the restaurant's atmosphere, it seems like a space mainly for dates or anniversary dinners, but they had a high chair ready and a separate kids' mushroom cream risotto on the menu, so it works fine to visit with a child too. It's not common for Western restaurants to have a dedicated kids' menu, so this was a nice surprise.

When eating out with a kid, whether kids are welcome and whether there's something for them to eat matters a lot — so having that covered felt considerate from a family visitor's perspective.

Small weddings and first-birthday parties at Romaok Riverside

I thought the Romaok Riverside space was so pretty, and it turns out they also host small weddings and dol (first-birthday) parties. With the hanok building, the garden, and the Han River all visible together, I'd bet the photos come out great without any extra decoration on a nice-weather day.

More than anything, the atmosphere is different from a typical wedding hall or party venue, so it seems well suited for families wanting something a bit quieter and more intimate.

Looking for a restaurant near Mieumnaru or Suseok-dong?

Personally, I went to Romaok Riverside for the view but ended up remembering the food more. I want to eat the raw truffle Korean beef white ragu pasta again, and I wanted to take the bread home to go, haha. Not having dedicated parking support is a slight downside, but the public lot fee is cheap enough that it wasn't much of a burden.

If you're looking for a Namyangju restaurant with a Han River view, a nice-atmosphere Suseok-dong restaurant, or a Mieumnaru restaurant, this one's worth checking out. I'd definitely come back on another nice-weather drive out to Namyangju.

There's also a café on the 2nd floor, and diners get a discount there, so keep that in mind :) Next time I'll have to bring my kid along too!
