Looking for a good dakdoritang (spicy braised chicken stew) spot in Seongjeong-dong? Sottture Dakdoritang.

I've already visited Sottture Dakdoritang several times because I love it so much, and this time I was craving a spicy dakdoritang for dinner again, so I went back.

I got the dakhanmari (whole chicken stew) with added udon noodles, and finished it all off with self-cooked fried rice at the end. Bottom line up front — it was delicious again this time.

Why this Seongjeong-dong chicken stew spot is worth repeat visits

Sottture Dakdoritang has a pretty comfortable atmosphere, so it's good for meals with friends or family, and fine for group visits too.

Since it was dinnertime I worried it might be crowded, but about two seats were still open, so I got in right away without waiting.

Easy to find: the alley across from Lotte Mart

Sottture Dakdoritang is in the alley across from Lotte Mart in Seongjeong-dong. Just a note — free parking is available behind the building.

They say they use domestic chicken and a special sauce that's low-temperature aged, making for a clean, deep-flavored dakdoritang — and since it starts cooking the moment you order, that flavor seems to come through even more.

What I ordered this time was the dakhanmari (2-3 people) menu with added udon noodles. And of course, fried rice to finish ^_^...

The sauce: neither too spicy nor too sweet

One reason I keep coming back is definitely the sauce! The red broth is appealing on its own, and with mushrooms and various vegetables in it, the vegetable stock flavor that comes through is great too. Not too spicy or too sweet, so it's an easy-going flavor haha.

At first you should let it simmer a bit — once the broth reduces down, the flavor gets even deeper and more delicious, so it's just human nature to wait a little while for that.

The cute chicken-shaped egg is also one of the charm points of Sottture Dakdoritang.

There's tteok (rice cake) in there too, which gives it an odd tteokbokki-like feel, and the potatoes are nice and chunky, pairing really well with the chicken.

And here the chicken portion is also quite large, so light eaters can end up completely stuffed!

Extra udon noodles and the self-cooked fried rice that turned porridge-like

I added udon noodles here for the first time, and it went together better than I expected. I'd recommend udon noodles over ramen noodles.

I added them in right as the broth started boiling and let them cook together, so the broth flavor really soaked in and made for even tastier udon noodles.

And then, since we decided to really go all out that day, we ordered the self-cooked fried rice!

It's a fried rice you have to cook yourself — I had too much broth left, so it ended up turning into porridge, but honestly it was still tasty in its own way lol. Since the sauce is delicious to begin with, the fried rice was delicious too.
