Sokcho ramen restaurant with hiyashi chuka cold ramen: Ichiba Ramen

In short

Ichiba Ramen is a ramen restaurant on Jungang-ro in Sokcho, Gangwon, open daily from 9am to 10pm. Two people visiting just before lunch on a weekday ordered miso ramen at 10,000 won, hiyashi chuka (cold ramen) heaped with red snow crab meat at 13,000 won, and chashu-don at 5,500 won, for 28,500 won in total. With rich broth, generous toppings and largely Korean-grown ingredients, Ichiba Ramen works just as well for a morning hangover cure as for a late-night bowl in Sokcho.

Let me introduce Ichiba Ramen, a ramen restaurant I loved in Sokcho! I really love ramen... (miso ramen especially, I'm obsessed) but it's actually really hard to find a good ramen spot in Sokcho, ugh. And then I discovered Ichiba Ramen!!

Ichiba Ramen from the street, and how long the wait is

Japanese-style entrance to Ichiba Ramen in Sokcho
Ichiba Ramen's yellow sign and waiting chairs

Ichiba Ramen in Sokcho has a Japanese-style interior starting right from the front of the building, and the eye-catching yellow sign makes it easy to find! There were rows of chairs set up out front for waiting. Luckily I visited right before weekday lunch so I avoided the wait, hehe. But right after I sat down, a crowd of customers poured in...

Inside Ichiba Ramen: seating and free amenities

The interior of Ichiba Ramen was really clean and pleasant! There are lots of tables, and since it's an open kitchen, you can watch the whole cooking process, which was reassuring.

Aprons, chargers, and other customer amenities

Plenty of baby chairs were ready, and there were so many thoughtful touches for customers — aprons, chargers, and more.

There's a restroom inside too, which was awesome!!

Order details for miso ramen and cold ramen
  • Miso ramen ₩10,000
  • Hiyashi chuka (cold ramen) ₩13,000
  • Chashu-don ₩5,500
  • Total ₩28,500

This is what the two of us ordered. Sokcho is a tourist area so prices tend to run high, but Ichiba Ramen was really reasonably priced too, haha.

Disposable hair ties provided at the table

Oddly, there were disposable hair ties set out at the table. Such a thoughtful detail!

Origin labeling for domestic ingredients

Rice, vegetables, beef bone broth, chicken — most of the ingredients are sourced domestically, which earns extra points from me.

Cold ramen noodles mixed with toppings

The cold ramen came piled with red snow crab meat! The flavor had a base that reminded me slightly of cold buckwheat noodles, but with a unique twist too?! Hard to describe, but it was genuinely delicious!! I ordered it because it was hot out, and I highly recommend it as a summer menu item.

I sprinkled on plenty of pepper and shichimi before eating.

Miso ramen, 10,000 won: rich broth with minced garlic

Bowl of rich-broth miso ramen
Minced garlic on a spoon next to the miso ramen

The miso ramen's rich broth was outstanding. There was minced garlic on the spoon too — mixing it in added such depth of flavor. The chashu was also thick and melted in my mouth.

If you order it spicy, it seems like it'd make a perfect hangover-cure breakfast too.

Well-seasoned soft-boiled egg topping

The egg was soft-boiled and perfectly seasoned — chewy, soft, and delicious!!

Chashu-don, 5,500 won: the mini rice bowl side

Mini-sized chashu-don

The chashu-don isn't a main dish — it's more of a side, in mini size, a good portion to share alongside the ramen. The two of us ate it together and I thought I was going to burst...

Inside of the chashu-don piled with chashu

It was loaded with soft, savory chashu, and we enjoyed this one a lot too.

Is Ichiba Ramen in Sokcho worth it?

The broth was rich, the toppings were generous, and every ingredient felt fresh — a really satisfying meal. The fact that most ingredients are domestically sourced matters a lot these days too... (and the owner was super friendly!!) I recommend Ichiba Ramen, a great ramen restaurant in Sokcho 👍
