Stone-pot seafood nurungjitang at O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang Hanam Misa Main Branch

After a good walk around Dumulmeori and a whole loop of Starfield Hanam, I was craving something hearty to fill me up. While hunting for a menu, I found something unusual — a Chinese restaurant where nurungjitang (scorched rice soup) is actually the main dish! This is O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang Hanam Misa Main Branch.

The signature dish is a stone-pot seafood nurungjitang packed with abalone, shrimp, squid, and even mung beans. Just looking at it screams hearty and generous.

Self-serve side dish bar and the serving robot

The banchan (side dishes) are genuinely generous! You get cabbage salad, white kimchi, radish pickles, seasoned greens, and dried radish strips. A serving robot zips around delivering side dishes and food, which is fun to watch too.

You grab the side dishes yourself from the self-serve bar, which is super convenient. You can refill as much as you want without feeling awkward about it. After the meal there's even fruit like oranges set out, and green onion kimchi, white kimchi, and dried radish strips are sold to take home separately.

Two bowls: seafood nurungjitang vs seafood abalone nurungjitang

And finally, the main event! We ordered the basic seafood nurungjitang (₩18,000) and the seafood abalone nurungjitang (₩20,000) :) The server comes and pours the scorched rice and broth into the stone pot right at the table. That sizzling sound alone was enough to make my mouth water.

A table absolutely loaded with food..! Two bowls of nurungjitang plus all the side dishes filled the table to the brim. Plenty for two, and generous enough for a family to share too.

Take one spoonful of the broth and you're hit by how rich and smooth the seafood stock is. It's loaded with abalone, shrimp, squid, scallop, shiitake mushroom, bok choy, and even mung beans — the ingredients are so substantial. Every piece is chunky, so it's filling with every bite.

The scored squid is springy and the plump shrimp are firm with every bite. The scorched rice at the bottom soaks up the broth and spreads soft, mingling with the mung beans for a savory, comforting flavor. It's the kind of dish that settles your stomach, and the older folks in our group especially loved it.

Fruit and coffee after the meal, plus 15% off next door

Once you're done eating, you can finish off with oranges and coffee. There's fruit and a coffee vending machine set up, so we got a budget-friendly dessert too. *Also, if you grab a drink at the coffee shop right next door, you get 15% off — worth keeping in mind :)
