What's on the Jangsodam self-bar?

Once you order, the first thing you do is run to the self-bar. The variety here is honestly insane. Basic sauces, seasonings, kimchi, and salad ingredients are all fully stocked as a given.

There's warm jeyuk-bokkeum (stir-fried spicy pork), tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), dubu-kimchi (tofu with kimchi), spaghetti, and even japchae (stir-fried glass noodles) — so generous you start to wonder if this is a BBQ place or a buffet. There's even freshly cooked white rice being made right there, and eating it with sirloin on top is pure happiness.

There's sundae (Korean blood sausage) and fried snacks too, so anyone who loves bunsik (Korean street food) will lose it over this self-bar lineup.

Fruit-aged ribs, traditional ribs, salted grilled chicken, samgyeopsal (pork belly), pork neck, cheese rice cake, sweet potato rice cake — the self-bar has a really wide range of things you can grab and grill yourself. Even the time spent deciding what to grab is fun.

On top of that, there's a self-serve noodle machine with a total of 10 different noodle types... this is genuinely insane. This is definitely a place you need to come to hungry!

That said, when using the self-bar, only take as much as you'll eat. It's posted that a ₩5,000 environmental fee is charged for leftover food, so instead of piling everything on greedily, I'd recommend taking small portions multiple times.

How did the freshwater eel and beef taste?

Once you order the set, the eel and beef arrive piled high on a large plate. Plump white freshwater eel next to well-marbled beef — just looking at it tells you today was a good choice.

They start cooking the eel on the grill, and my heart is already racing — it's delicious before I've even taken a bite.

Once it's grilled to a nice golden brown, they snip it with scissors and it's slightly crispy outside but thick and tender inside. This eel is so good I keep thinking about it.

Wrap the eel in lettuce, dip it in sauce, and take a bite — the savory flavor spreads through your mouth and words fail. It also feels like eating a nourishing health dish, which is a nice bonus.

Ordering the spicy seasoned crab at the kiosk

In the middle of the meal, I had the appetite-boosting yangnyeom gejang (spicy seasoned crab)! (You order this via kiosk and it's brought straight to you.) With sauce slathered all over it, it looks like the ultimate rice thief. Spooned over rice, it's impossible not to eat. Being able to enjoy eel, beef, and crab all in one sitting feels like what makes Jangsodam special.

The beef served was sirloin, and the moment it hits the grill, that sizzling sound alone is already delicious.

I picked up a piece of golden-grilled sirloin and wrapped it in lettuce — the juicy beef flavor spreads through my mouth. Going back and forth between the savory eel and the beef, I couldn't put my chopsticks down.

Are the eel and sirloin refills as good as the first round?

It was so good I refilled both eel and sirloin once each, and the refilled portions kept the same great quality — this place deserves praise as a Seonam group dinner spot!
