We visited Suksung Myeongjak Cheongna, a Blue Ribbon beef restaurant known as one of the best places to eat in Cheongna, to celebrate my wife's and my anniversary. We'd been looking for a nice-atmosphere date spot among Cheongna's Korean BBQ restaurants and made a reservation — and it turned out to be a great choice for a special-occasion meal.

A spread of aged hanwoo for our anniversary
Where is Suksung Myeongjak Cheongna, and how do you book a room?
Suksung Myeongjak Cheongna is an aged hanwoo specialist on the 1st floor of 14 Damji-ro 8beon-gil, Incheon. We booked a week in advance through Naver Reservation.

The calm, upscale exterior of the restaurant
Private rooms accommodate 5 to 30 people and group seating goes up to 50, so it looked like a good pick not just for anniversaries but for gatherings among Cheongna restaurant regulars too.

An aged hanwoo specialist selected as a Blue Ribbon restaurant for 7 straight years since 2020
The clean, casual atmosphere felt designed to let top-grade aged hanwoo shine, and having staff grill the meat for us meant we could stay comfortably focused on conversation throughout the meal.

We centered the meal on two servings of striploin, paired with sea urchin roe and avocado hanwoo tartare. We finished with pyeongyang naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles) and spicy seafood doenjang porridge.

Striploin for two: what 21 days of wet aging tastes like

The striploin had both chew and tenderness at once. True to its 21+ day wet-aging, the beef flavor ran deep, and having staff grill it for us meant we could stay fully present in conversation right to the end.
Tender striploin
Sea urchin roe (uni), limited to a set number per day

Sea urchin roe (uni)
The sea urchin roe came with wasabi, radish sprouts, pickled ginger, flying fish roe, and dried seaweed for wraps — rich and sweet in a way that offered a whole different pleasure from the grilled meat.
Avocado hanwoo tartare

Avocado hanwoo tartare
The avocado hanwoo tartare paired creamy avocado with seasoned hanwoo eye of round, topped with grana padano cheese, so each bite carried several flavors at once.
Spicy seafood doenjang porridge and pyeongyang naengmyeon
Spicy seafood doenjang porridge, mul naengmyeon (cold noodles in broth)
The spicy seafood doenjang porridge was hearty, loaded with seafood, mushrooms, and braised konjac, while the pyeongyang naengmyeon's deeply beefy broth cleansed the palate nicely after the meat.
Hibiscus ade and house wine

Hibiscus ade, house wine
Both the tart hibiscus ade and the light house wine we paired with the meal complemented the beef without overpowering it.
Is Suksung Myeongjak Cheongna worth it for an anniversary dinner?
If you're looking for a great Cheongna beef restaurant, I'd recommend Suksung Myeongjak Cheongna. Between the quality of the meat and the tableside grilling service, it more than held up as a date spot among Cheongna's Korean BBQ restaurants.
I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a good Cheongna restaurant for meat, and next time I'd like to try the truffle hanwoo yukhoe (beef tartare).

"Like time slowly aged, today's anniversary deepened too."
