Songpa group dinner: extra-large monkfish stew for 4, Ttoksuni Agujjim
In short
Ttoksuni Agujjim Jamsil Direct Branch is a Jeolla-style agujjim (braised monkfish) restaurant one minute on foot from Exit 3 of Hanseong Baekje Station in Songpa, Seoul. A group of friends ordered the extra-large agujjim for 4 plus flying fish roe fried rice for two at 10,000 won, and got boiled monkfish and unlimited banchan refills alongside, with more meat than bean sprouts and a sauce that never turned heavy. Ttoksuni Agujjim is an easy pick in Songpa for a work dinner, a family meal or a long catch-up with friends.

It had been a while since I got together with friends around Songpa, and everyone's palate has gotten pickier these days, so picking a menu was surprisingly tricky. We've been eating a lot of meat lately, so that felt a bit much. Rather than somewhere loud and crowded, we wanted a proper meal that was nutritious but still let us chat comfortably, so we headed to Ttoksuni Agujjim Jamsil branch.
Ttoksuni Agujjim, long famous as an old-school Jeolla-do style monkfish restaurant in Gangseo-gu, Seoul, has now opened a branch in Songpa-gu too.
50 years of Jeolla-do home-style flavor, a Bangi-dong favorite: Ttoksuni Agujjim
Where is Ttoksuni Agujjim Jamsil, and where do you park?
Ttoksuni Agujjim Jamsil Direct Branch is 100m, about a 1-minute walk, from Exit 3 of Hanseong Baekje Station on Line 9. It's close to Olympic Park and Jamsil, so it's a very accessible monkfish restaurant near Olympic Park.

If you get a stamp on your parking ticket while dining, you get 2 hours free in-building parking (valet fee 2,000 won), then 500 won per 10 minutes after that. There's also a public parking lot on the road in front.

This is the Bangi-dong favorite that's appeared on TV a ton of times.

Whoa, they've been running since all the way back in 1979 — a place with real history.
Inside Ttoksuni Agujjim: seating and space between tables

Since it's newly opened, the interior is clean and comfortable. The place is really spacious too.

The tables aren't crammed together, so it was comfortable for us girls to sit and catch up for a long time. Now that we're hungry, let's take a look at the menu.
What we ordered: extra-large agujjim for 4 and flying fish roe fried rice
Ttoksuni Agujjim has everything from set menus to single dishes. We went with single-item ordering: Ttoksuni Agujjim jumbo for 4 and flying fish roe fried rice for 2.

Unlimited banchan refills at Ttoksuni Agujjim
The default banchan (side dish) setup. Unlimited refills including japchae.

The gochu-bugak (fried dried pepper chips) were so good, and self-serve unlimited refills too 👍

Perilla-seed seaweed soup, soft and nutty. And now, the main dish.
Is the extra-large agujjim for 4 enough for five people?

The staff told us that even for 5 people, ordering the size-for-4 plus rice would be enough, and it really was generous. At most agujjim places you go to, it's mostly bean sprouts with barely any meat to be found, but here there was plenty of big, pale, plump flesh, and all my friends were satisfied. The skin wasn't mushy either — it was chewy, like a collagen boost ❣️
Delicious boiled monkfish dipped in wasabi soy sauce.

Delicious boiled monkfish dipped in wasabi soy sauce. Can you see how plump the meat is?

The signature dish, agujjim, is a great match of plump monkfish and a secret Jeolla-do style sauce. Not too spicy, not too sweet — the sauce is built around a heavy savoriness that never got old to the last bite. It has that good flavor without tasting overly MSG-heavy. I'd recommend this for a Bangi-dong drinking spot, a Songpa work dinner, or a family meal.

The bean sprouts stayed crisp instead of going limp, and there was plenty of fragrant minari (water dropwort), which paired wonderfully with the monkfish meat.
A savory agujjim sauce that stays light on the stomach
Now that I'm in my 40s, overly intense or artificially spicy food tends to upset my stomach, but this sauce was pleasantly spicy without being heavy, so it went down easily. We set the spice level to medium, and it was just right for chatting and snacking away 🌶
Finishing with flying fish roe fried rice, 10,000 won
Gotta finish with carbs, right?

Even though it's a portion for 2, they generously gave us three fried eggs — the generosity of this Bangi-dong monkfish favorite, Ttoksuni Agujjim.

The flying fish roe fried rice, 10,000 won, came stir-fried in a fresh sauce rather than the leftover braising sauce.

Even full, you can't skip fried rice, right? Haha. Stir-fried in the remaining sauce with popping flying fish roe, seaweed flakes, and nutty sesame oil, lightly crisped onto the hot plate and scraped up — it made for a really clean finish. Recommended as a group spot.
