Monkfish stew restaurant near Hanseong Baekje Station, Seoul: Ttoksuni
In short
Ttoksuni Agujjim Jamsil Direct Branch is a Jeolla-style agujjim (braised monkfish) restaurant a 3-minute walk from Exit 3 of Hanseong Baekje Station in Songpa, Seoul. Ordered at the basic spice level, the standard agujjim was about as hot as Shin Ramyun and came with plump monkfish, while the perilla seaweed soup served alongside took the edge off the heat. For anyone who cannot handle chilli, Ttoksuni Agujjim is an easy pick with rice and that seaweed soup.

I've been craving something spicy for a while now, so while deciding what to eat, I heard there's a great agujjim (braised monkfish) place in Bangi-dong and headed straight there after work. This spot is apparently a Jeolla-style agujjim place that's been loved for a long time in the Gangseo area of Seoul!
True to a place carrying on 50 years of hand-crafted tradition, they have all kinds of agujjim, and it's a great spot for visits with parents, work dinners, or gatherings! Let's get right into the review!

This place is a 3-minute walk from Hanseong Baekje Station Exit 3, so it's very accessible by subway. It's also fairly close to Olympic Park and Jamsil, so it's good to pair a visit with those if you're nearby.

And parking is available, so it's a plus for anyone driving! Just note that parking runs on valet only, and it costs ₩2,000.

Menu and the standard agujjim we ordered
Looking at the menu at Ttoksuni Agujjim Jamsil Direct Branch, there's a huge variety. There's meaty agujjim, gonyi (monkfish roe) agujjim, aged kimchi agujjim, special seafood agujjim, and even fried gonyi agujjim! For lunch they also sell baby octopus set meals and codfish clear soup. We ordered the basic agujjim at mild spice level.

There are a lot of offices in Bangi-dong and a lot of gatherings happen there, right? The restaurant is spacious and pleasant, so it really seems like a great spot for group meetups.

How the perilla seaweed soup cools the spice
As side dishes, we got perilla seaweed soup and various banchan. This perilla seaweed soup is really the kicker! I'm a spice wimp, so even the mild spice level (about Shin Ramyun heat) was a little.. spicy for me! But eating this perilla seaweed soup right after made the spiciness completely disappear.

Plump monkfish topped with liver and roe
The agujjim finally arrived! Looks spicy just from looking at it, right? And apparently a place where they put the innards on top of the agujjim is the real deal,, so this really is an agujjim place worth its reputation.

I just picked up a random piece of monkfish, but isn't the flesh so plump? There's actually a separate menu item called

The texture was so soft it just slid right down! Perfect drinking food for anyone who likes to drink. (There was a table next to us drinking solo too, haha)

It was a bit spicy for me so I ate it with rice! If you're good with spicy food or aren't a spice wimp, you can eat this easily! And agujjim is supposed to be a little spicy anyway, that's the point!

Mint Star and Blue Ribbon listed
This place was also selected as a

Three Blue Ribbons and two Red Ribbons.. this is a place where the taste is guaranteed.

Review event fried shrimp and Hadong plum tea
As a lover of review events,, how could I not accept fried shrimp? Things like this are a must.

And here they had Hadong plum tea ready as dessert! I lo.ve. places that have drinks like this. It was genuinely so tasty that my boyfriend and I each had two cups!

They also have an insane number of awards.. so it's a solid place to bring your parents without worry! Honestly, taking your parents out to eat somewhere new is really hard, right?

Self-serve banchan bar and the takeout discount
You can grab extra side dishes yourself at the self-serve corner! There's green onion kimchi and fried peppers that don't come out as standard banchan.

Maybe because you get ₩2,000 off for takeout, a lot of people seemed to be ordering takeout too. I should come back for takeout next time!
Today I reviewed Ttoksuni Agujjim in Jamsil. Taste, hospitality, cleanliness, and service were all satisfying. The restaurant is also spacious with parking available, so definitely give it a visit!
