Seoul Station gyukatsu restaurant with an 11am booking: Furato Shokudo
In short
Furato Shokudo Seoul Square Direct Store is a Japanese gyukatsu (deep-fried beef cutlet) restaurant on the first basement floor of Seoul Square, by Seoul Station Exit 8 in Jung-gu, Seoul. Wanting to try gyukatsu before a trip to Osaka, I booked 11am through Naver Reservation and ordered Set 1 — gyukatsu, the steki set meal and two drinks — with the drinks swapped for Kirin Ichiban beer. Each cut is grilled about 20 seconds a side to medium-rare on your own tabletop brazier, which makes Furato Shokudo an easy spot for two on a date.

Today I'm sharing my review of Furato Shokudo Seoul Square Direct Store, a gyukatsu (beef cutlet) spot near Seoul Station I visited on a date with my boyfriend! I've been planning a trip to Osaka lately and thought, let's properly try Japanese-style gyukatsu before we go!! — so I looked it up and ended up here.
This place is famous as a Japanese-style gyukatsu specialist, and I got even more curious when I heard Lee Youngji, who I really like, shouted it out. So I combined it with a Seoul Station date with my boyfriend and visited :)

Where is Furato Shokudo Seoul Square, and how do you get there?

An 11am reservation at Furato Shokudo: full within 10 minutes
We booked for 11am and the restaurant was completely full in less than 10 minutes!! I really recommend booking through Naver Reservation before you go!

On the day we visited, there were a lot of office workers around, and seeing people keep streaming in even before lunchtime, I thought — ah, this is really a Seoul Station office-workers' favorite haha.
What's on the Furato Shokudo menu?

Looking at the menu, there's not just gyukatsu but a variety of Japanese dishes like the steki set, omurice, curry, and more!! Since we were visiting as a couple and wanted to try a bit of everything, we ordered Set 1!
What comes in Set 1, and swapping the drinks for Kirin Ichiban beer
What we ordered was Furato Shokudo's Set 1. It comes with gyukatsu, the steki set, and two drinks. We visited at 11am, but my boyfriend suddenly said he wanted a beer, so we ordered beer as our drink 🍺

Maybe because it's Kirin Ichiban, it went really well with the meat!! And drinking beer in the morning put me in a really good mood!
By the way, they also sell Suntory and Jim Beam highballs, so if you like highballs, ordering one of those alongside would be great too!

Grilling the gyukatsu and steki yourself on a tabletop brazier

After a short wait, our gyukatsu and steki set arrived!! Both dishes come with a personal grill, so you cook the meat yourself to your liking. Putting the meat on the grill and cooking it yourself made it fun to watch and fun to eat 🔥 It was surprisingly entertaining to do together on a date haha.

Best way to eat Furato Shokudo gyukatsu: add butter

The gyukatsu I really wanted to try before going to Osaka!! I had high expectations since I specifically wanted to try proper Japanese-style gyukatsu, and it was delicious!

I liked being able to grill it myself on the personal grill as much as I wanted, and cooking it to my own preference was great too. The outside was savory and the inside was tender, and it went really well with the sauce 😋
And here's my tip!! I recommend adding butter. Grilling the meat with butter on top makes it feel a bit more tender, plus you get the extra savory flavor of the butter — delicious!! If you like butter, definitely add it 👍
How juicy is the steki set meal at Furato Shokudo?

And then the steki set we also ordered! The steki was also grilled ourselves on the personal grill, and it was genuinely delicious too 🤤 It had a totally different feel from the gyukatsu, so I was glad we ordered both to try together!! The meat was so tender, the juices were insane... juice just flowing out..
Is Set 1 worth it for two people at Furato Shokudo?
Also, something I learned while looking up Furato Shokudo — apparently Cortis used to visit here every weekend back in their trainee days!! Celebrity favorite aside, visiting every weekend means it has to be genuinely good!! And after visiting myself, I could see why so many people come here!! The meat was so tender, and so full of juice..
We visited because we were curious about the gyukatsu we'd be eating in Japan while planning our Osaka trip, and it turned out to be way more fun than expected 🥰 I liked being able to try both gyukatsu and the steki set, and the personal-grill style made it good for a date too!! If you're visiting as a couple, I especially recommend ordering Set 1 like we did and sharing the gyukatsu and steki set 🙌 If you're near Seoul Station or Seoul Square looking for a Seoul Station gyukatsu restaurant or Seoul Station Japanese restaurant, hope this helps 🤍
