Seoul Station Japanese restaurant for Kirin draft and karaage: Furato

I'd always heard Seoul Station had a ton of things to do and eat, but I never really had the chance to go, ㅠㅠ. So when I had some business in Seoul today, I finally checked out a spot I'd already pinned on Naver Maps — Furato Shokudo Seoul Square Direct Store!! Here's the review!!

Where is Furato Shokudo Seoul Square, and what are its hours?

Furato Shokudo Seoul Square Direct Store is at B1F-4, 416 Hangang-daero, Jung-gu, Seoul. It's open Monday through Sunday from 11:00 to 20:50, with a break time from 15:00 to 17:00, and last orders at 14:30 and 20:20.

Take the escalator down on the left side of Seoul Square's 1st floor main entrance, and Furato Shokudo is right there on your left!

Furato Shokudo apparently started from the joy of flavor and the cozy atmosphere of small Tokyo eateries. As someone who loves Japanese food, every single item on the menu looked amazing to me…🤤

Among the many Japanese dishes on Furato Shokudo's menu, the gyukatsu, Japanese-style omurice, steki don, Yamagata minced beef curry, and steki set all caught my eye. It was my first visit, so I agonized over what to order, ㅠㅠ.

There were plenty of waiting customers out front with Catch Table reservations. Proof this place is legit! Also, there's a current Naver Pay event where you can earn Naver Points on payment — worth checking!

Ordering the steki set, sanjoku karaage and onsen tamago

Luckily, since I had a reservation, I was seated right away! Got a great corner table, haha.

After much deliberation, I ordered the steki set, onsen tamago, sanjoku gara-age (whole-cut fried chicken), draft beer, and zero-sugar cola!!

When you order the steki set at Furato Shokudo, you get to cook it yourself on a personal mini grill!!🤗 I love this kind of service where you grill it to your own taste. It's fun to eat this way, and cooking it exactly how you like makes it taste even better!

How to eat Furato Shokudo's gyukatsu at its best

• 1. Place the meat on the heated grill.
• 2. Grill evenly, 20–30 seconds on each side.
• 3. Find your own perfect doneness. — Rare 10–20 sec / Medium rare 20–30 sec / Medium 30–40 sec / Well done 40–50 sec
• 4. Try different combos with wasabi, salt, and the house special sauce.

Rice and miso soup, shredded cabbage salad, the steki meat, pickled radish as a side dish plus butter, wasabi and various sauces, and the onsen tamago I ordered extra!!!

I was so amazed by how gorgeous the meat looked that I think I took like 20 photos of it.

And the gara-age I ordered extra! Underneath is whole-cut chicken, topped with scrambled egg, raw onion, and sauce😋😋

How do the sanjoku karaage and onsen tamago taste?

Let me start with the sides — I already love Furato Shokudo's onsen tamago, so I ordered it, and it was so moist and jiggly, clearly made with really fresh eggs! With the sanjoku gara-age, taking a bite of chicken together with the scrambled egg and raw onion and a bit of sauce is pure heaven💕

There's a reason it comes served that way👍🏻👍🏻 The chicken is boneless so it's easy to eat, super crispy, and with the crunch of the raw onion added in, it's absolutely delicious, ㅠㅡㅠ.

Coated the personal grill plate with butter and started grilling the meat!!

Stacking the freshly grilled meat three layers high with white rice and wasabi was 💯💯💯 The meat wasn't tough at all — it was so tender it melted together with the rice, and I felt bad eating each bite, it was that good, ㅠㅠㅠ. Grilled yakiniku-style and eaten right away, the meat's savory juices were still alive, truly delicious, ㅠㅠ🫶🏻🫶🏻. If the meat starts to feel heavy, the miso soup, salad, and side dishes reset your palate right away!

Why you should order the Kirin draft beer

You have to order the draft beer at Furato Shokudo…🍻💯 I fell for it on the first sip, took two sips, and it was already gone that much, hahahaha. It tastes exactly like the Kirin draft I drank at izakayas in Japan!! No need to go to Japan anymore.

I was so moved that I could get that refreshing Japanese Kirin draft taste right here in Korea, ㅠㅠㅠ.
